Will be buying a new pole in Janauary.
Anyone use a 18footer as everday pole ?
Not sure if it will reach over say a connie to do the bedroom window ?
-
We used 18 foot poles for years but then switched to a CLX-22. The ClX has a shorter closed length, so is good for confined spaces and the extra reach means about 99% of our work is reachable. Conservatory roofs are easily reachable, although I am 6'4", and the lack of whip in the CLX makes it very much easier than my 18. Given the ease of use, lightness, rigidity and all round excellence I personally wouldn't bother with an 18 again.

clx 18 and slx 35
i would get the 22 i feel the 18 is a tad short

I use clx 18 everyday all day
Actual reach is 21/22ft Ian

Don't mess about with 2 poles, clx27, plenty light enough and long enough to reach 99% of windows over extensions, 3rd storey, over conservatories tc.
-
Get the 18 the lighter the better I use a slx 22 and a Phoenix 18 and when I have to use slx can't wait to get back to Phoenix.

My thoughts exactly....except im only 5' 10" ;D

I'll be buying another pheonix this coming yr.22 ft not much wieght difference and the extra length comes in handy.
-
I use 18 for most domestics. Reasonably tall with a good reach though. I can get 3rd floor of 'David Wilson' townhouses but not dormer type windows.

poor advice.... lug around a big heavy pole not for me no thanks!
I use a slx18 as a everyday pole, it manages well with windows above conservatorys and is long enough for 90% of my round i only use my slx30 on two houses which are not 3 storey, 1 over a conservatory my slx18 would reach but because they have a pond i have to reach over the pond as well, the other is an extension which is too wide for the 18

All things considered Ian, your objective in choosing a pole has to be, surely, to work as effectively and as quickly as possible. The speed aspect of that statement is directly related, to a large degree, to the overall weight of your pole assembly. Put simply, the lighter your cleaning implement the faster you can work and then, obviously, the more money you can earn at the end of the day.
As my cleaning methods and alterations over the years have always been adjusted with the idea of promoting aspects of speed and ease whilst working I have managed to drastically reduce the time involved in cleaning windows.
It may seem insignificant, but working with one or two sections of your pole that are not required for most of the time is going to significantly reduce your earning potential through nothing more that the tiny amount of speed lost in moving the extra mass in each movement of that pole. It’s all physics man!
Work with whatever allows you to move as quickly as possible.

Clx27 heavy?! Really?
-
I have a slx18 & slx30,
The slx18 cleans 99% of my work, cleans windows over conny roofs easily.
I also agree a clx27 is too heavy for an everyday pole,
-
It is not a matter of whether the pole seems heavy to you or not. It’s a matter of speed of movement and you physically cannot move as quick with a heavier pole.

Yes and whippy to.
Its not heavy against a sack of spuds but it is against a 18' slx
I use the 18' slx for 99% of my domestic and a 30' slx that comes out for about 5 jobs a week

Each to their own, however, my staff would destroy slx poles in minutes, hence the clx, plus where we are they need them at full extension a number of times daily, and asking them to remember which property need which pole would result in so much time wasted messing about switching poles, I'd lose money.

18 foot for ever day pole 8)

In other words, you dont want to part with your money for a slx for your staff ;D ;D
Seriously, your staff may earn you more with lighter poles, as they wouldnt ne as tired at the days end
-
Surely you want people tired at day's end?

No, there's a balance to be had.
If I gave them a Brodex scaffold bar, or Gardiners extreme, it would get slung in and out of the van, dropped, stood on, run over, you name it.
Granted, if I was on the tools daily, I'd be using the lightest out there. I'm not, the staff are, so they get what I deem to be a suitable pole for their daily tasks.

yes heavy! a slx18 is not far off half the weight of a clx27
-
any one not able to manage ant length clx should be a cleaner..
-
I use an Extreme 18',it reaches 90% of my work, staff use SLX22&25,on the odd occassion I have to use the SLX, I find them heavy ;D
