After speaking to my cleaners about wanting to get another van and round out next year we have come up with a plan to not have the hastle and expence of needing a third van
Instead of buying another van why not build up a weekend round up as with 2 vans doing this you would be better off than having a third out.
Ok it would only be 16 days per month total worked instead of 20 but The savings would be huge. No 3rd van to pay for and maintain let alone fuel for each week.
you could add a nice £50 job each day too to compensate the 4 missing days a month.
As an example-.
New van 2-15k
Insurence 1k
Average price to kit out another van 2k
Fuel a month £200 so £2400 a year
Minimum would be 7k for a basic van and kit over the first year not including mot, servicing, maintaining costs so more closer to 8k realistically.
In year 1 withought adding an extra £50 a day for the sat and sun (£300 instead of£250) you would be well quids in 4k a month extra coming in or with the extra £50 added to every sat and sun monthly total would be just under 5k equaling what another van would generate.
My workers will have no problem working saturday and neither do i, all i need to do is find a couple of lads who want to top up there weekly money by covering sundays which shouldnt be too hard at all and untill then we can do the sundays whilst im busy canvassing up an extra 16 days of work.
Thoughts please??.

u must really love canvassing, wish i did ;)

How will it save on fuel the van will still need to go to the jobs meaning your current vans will spend more on fuel???
It would be a stop gap to expanding to a third van but I no way will it replace a van.
Having a third team is security relying in 3 teams work getting done in 7 days every week by two vans will end up getting you burnt

Is just an idea at the mo.
On paper it would work verey well, maybe in reality it will get me burnt who knows.
9 times out of 10 all work gets done mon-fri unless first cleans and new cleans where i tend to do them saturdays anyway so i cant see why it would get me burnt having an extra 4 working days a month between both vans??
Maybe im being ambishous thinking it would outweigh a third van but it would defo be a benefit to me than a fire From my workings out.
If it did burn me or i had mega problems from it then all id have to do is purchase 3rd van and the fire would be put out straight away as id have 16 days of work ready made for it.

mick take a step back and haver a look sometiumes its hard to see what is right in front of you.
Dont take offence but what im saying is it wont save on fuel or wages(maybe even cost more in wages due to paying more for weekend work??) also due to the week being totally booked up and no space at all if say your van broke down or an employee or two was sick or the weather was that bad you couldnt work or your staff got ped off working6/7 days every week of every month all year you would have no time to make up for these inconviences.
now if its for a month or two to get a full months work for a new van then it sounds good(workload will take time to build) but has a cost saving exercise dongt think you will find many who think this would work
just my opinion though

Ronnie i hear what your saying and apreatiate it too as a lot does make sence. My reason for thinking out the box like this is That i have 2 vans sitting on my drive doing nothing every weekend, id have to accept occasional sickness and breakdowns or bad weather conditions but to be fair they happen during the week as well and work still gets done 9 times out of 10 within the week or month to not need to do the weekend.
Maybe scrap comparing it to having another van out on the road.
I can gain 16 working days total between the 2 vans straight away each month, of course id still need to fuel them and pay wages and as you say a higher rate due to weekend work. However if i could still make £250 profit after all expencies etc from both vans being out over the weekend working thats an extra grand a month coming in for just filling an empty space.
-
The downside is it would mean i couldnt switch off from work mode weekends which is a big downside.
All i can do is see how it goes throughout next year im not in a rush to do anything as of yet and can use the downside as a plus as can have a 2/3rds ready made round ready to start with a new van.

Would putting 3 guys in a van be an option ??

this is more of a personal question that you need to answer. basically do i want to earn more money but have less free time.
personally, window cleaning provides an excellent income without having to work weekends and i highly value my free time (especially if you have staff) but if you feel that extra 1k a month will make you more happy then go for it.
