Title: Going on holiday
Post by: AuRavelling79 on December 18, 2012, 10:23:44 pm
So lets assume you decide to take a fortnight off and you are a sole operator.

Do you forewarn custies or do you just take the time off and do custies due when you are away later than scheduled and then continue every month/two months from the date you do them after returning.

Do you put up a phone message saying you are away until ... ?

Can you tell I'd like a decent two week holiday for the first time since 2005? ;D ;D

we just bump the schedule along 2 weeks - we just say were having a shutdown if asked

and on the phone we provide a mobile to a trusted friend who will act as 'receptionist' and deal
with queries 'if poss' or book stuff in after the break ( quotes - not cleans )

I bump them along a fortnight in summer and end of year. No one seem to mind or even notice to be honest.

I had a week in Eygpt last week but was hoping to pull it back this week by starting at dawn and finishing at dusk. So far so good but I'm not very optimistic about the rest of this week.

Try and do what you can early and do the remainder late. I would only let my oldish custys know that I will be late. I don't want them to have a heart attack because of worry when I don't turn up lol

I had 2 weeks away end of May into June, mentioned in passing to those that were about.Came back to monsoon season and was even further behind once i started working again.6 weeks became 10.I refrained from working like a lunatic to catch up as the treadmill will only bring that around again.
So its 2 weeks lost income or bring some forward and do catch up days and i`m not sure its worth the hassle this way.
Bringing them all forward steadily by a couple of days each clean for months before makes financial sense but requires too much discipline as the temptation to have this already stored time off is easy when tired.

Anyway,i sat in the sun for 2 weeks, mobile off(ish),and i`m still alive.I`ll be in Thomas Cook`s on the 28th,(goodish time to book apparently, been in already!)

In the early 90's my son had a serious car accident.  We were up and down to Guy's Hospital on a daily basis for nearly a month.  When I eventually got back to work, no-one commented on my absence.  Made me feel a bit sad - not one custy missed me, but then again didn't lose a single one either ;D
