Hi all,
I have a job to do for a Childrens play group for the West Sussex county council.
They want me to supply this information -
BTW they are genuine
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Company Registration No.
Company Vat No.
Last financial years sales total ( this information is used to identify small to medium enterprises)
Are you interested in being able to accept WSCC P-cards?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any idea how I find my company registration no?
Im not VAT Registered anyway
Not to happy about giving them my last years sales figures!
Has anyone else have to do this?
Thanks

You'll only have a company registration number if you are registered with Companies House (as a company, AND are trading as that company).
You won't have a VAT number if you're not VAT registered.
Last years figures! They won't want to know the fine details.
If you're an owner/operator, trading as a 'sole trader', and not VAT registered, just tell them that. That's a perfectly valid/acceptable business model.

Sort out YOUR terms and conditions especially about payment times.
Our local authority was paying at 90 days if you were lucky- I understand it is a bit better now but unless you tick all the boxes it can be tricky.
A hostel asked me to do some cleaning but the bill had to go through Town Hall and they had not got all the details. It took and age. Never did any more.

.......also if you do get the job , before you start, get an official order / and order number from them in writing, and when you have finished the job get someone on site who works for the council to sign a "delivery note" .

I've done work for Wandsworth Council and waited 30 days, as agreed at that time ........ ironically, my work at Parliament is settled by email invoice and BACS payment within 7 days ;)

90 days from council.
If I submit my invoice on their on line invoice on
say Monday it's in the bank by Friday.
They don't ask for proof of anything not even public
liability...no method statements risk assessments
or anything like that.
The person in charge just rings and books me to give
a quote, it's accepted, and job is done.

Thanks for the replies.
I will see if they do a bank transfer.
Might be easier!

Went to do the job. Turned up dead on time.
The numptys there knew nothing about it, so I had to leave. Got the right hump. >:(
Emailed the person who ok'd it, but out of the office till Monday...
I said to the receptionist that I knew it wasnt her fault personally, but not even one sorry from her for the waste of my time. Perhaps they are not allowed to say sorry as it means they are accepting responsibility?
Effing local governments. The left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing!

As long as you got your official purchase order through with PO number, you should be able to re-book and charge an extra amount against the no show. Frustrating but it happens, at least you have e-mail contact and also ncan call the person on Monday

We did a lot of local authority work which was no hassle a few years ago but Local Authorities are supposed to only give work to " approved " service providers which entails registering an interest in tendering for work as it becomes available.
I think it was about 64 pages of form filling and you easily rule your self out by entering a simple error on forms.
Attending a meeting of potential service providers and hearing about the underhand way councils deal with contracts made us withdraw from the providers list regarding it as not worth the hassle.
However................there IS money to be made if you can put up with the inept council workers you have to deal with.

Im not going to waste my time with them anymore. Already wasted my quote time, paperwork time.
Waiting half an hour because I was early so i arrived dead on time for them, only to be told they know nothing about it.
Give me Mrs Jones at 5 Acacia Avenue anyday.
