Title: LPG Boiler not firing
Post by: santino on December 11, 2012, 06:04:32 pm
Hi Guys,

I have one of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12L-GAS-LPG-PROPANE-TANKLESS-INSTANT-HOT-WATER-HEATER-BOILER-STAINLESS-NEW-/300767314283?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Hearing_Cooling_Air&hash=item460721016b&_uhb=1

I bought a new gas bottle for it today but cant get it to ignite. the boiler clicks away and i can see the spark but just wont ignite the gas....any thoughts?

thanks,
santino

Batts changed, gas changed. Fired up earlier, but no joy now. Gonna try warming the regulator and heater up a bit,see if it is because its cold.

the cold shouldn`t affect it unless you let it freeze last night.

no reset as far as i know. i thought maybe the bottle might have frozen overnight  as when i purchased it this morning i noticed the bottles were left out over night. the gas bottle was in the back of my van all day so i imagine it must of warmed the bottle slightly but still no ignition??

Hi Santino,

Have you had it working before, or is this first time?

The reason for asking is that the flow rate of the boiler  (12LPM) is quite high. Could it be that you haven't got enough water flow at say 2 LPM to start it?
The boys seem to prefer the fogwash which I understand is 6LPM and some have 8 LPM but I haven't heard of any 12 LPM.

if the water is flowing enough and the gas is on try turning to right hand numpty (flow rate) all the way up.

We had the same problem with the same heaters (8L not 12) and it came to life as soon as we turned that up

Mine is 6lpm,was working fine for months, just as this cold weather is here it decides not to work. Just warmed the batteries up,still not firing. Its clicking but not lighting.

If its clicking they the water flow is not the problem. I would say its one of two things. Either the battery's are low and need replacing, or there is a problem with the thermocoupler and it's not letting the gas through.

Try disconnecting the gas feed from the heater, then make sure the water is flowing well & ignition is working, then reconnect the gas & turn on.
Sometimes if there isnt instant ignition the regulator builds pressure & stops it working

i had the same prob ..when i changed the gas over... i thought maybe it was an airlock in the gas pipe because it cleared and started after a while

Change the batteries for Duracell even though it is clicking it may not have the power to open the gas valve. This is quite common.

We have the 8L one and have to have the flow on our controller at 60 to get the boiler to fire.

Try turning the flow up.

Or failing that it could be an air lock in the gas pipe or heater itself, try turning the heater on an off a few times with the flow high, may clear it?

I was just about to say the same - rubbish batteries often give this issue, even when brand new.

I'd agree with the last two posts and also add that once you've found the ideal water flow rate and gas flow rate for it to fire then make a couple of marks on the casing so you can get it within range again next time.

Just back from tesco's.put new energizers in it,still no good. Gas bottle is new, regulator changed for a new one,new batts now in and not firing.
Give up,cold water only tomorrow!!  :D

Have you tried altering the flow rate of your water? Either with the valve or your controller? When it's clicking away try opening and closing the flow a touch.

Have you tried turning your pump controller up to maximum & the "flow" know on the heater down near minimum?

Just to update you all, I changed the batteries and the boiler fired up. The looks like it had enough power to click away and try to ignite but not enough to. Open the valve. Worked in - 5 today no problems.

Thanks for all your help guys :)

Have you all fitted these boilers yourself and if you did how did you know what to do.

Need to get one and fit it and dont know the first thing about setting it up but it cant be rocket science. or Can it ?

If you look at heater top right next to flue there's a little button move up and down
have water at min gas high should work
