I know someone mentioned a car paint laquer a few days ago. I am interested in how they get it on evenly.
-
Will it dry rock hard and have greater wear resistance??
-
Look on E bay under car paints or touch up material. Don`t hold the spray can to close. Spray on one cote then let it dry and spray a second coat and a third after the third lightly sand with 1200 GRIT water paper and spray final coat and try if its enough put more coats if need be. If you get a supplier call and ask what would work best.Good luck.
PS LOOK AT YOU TUBE ON CAR BODY REPAIRS IT MIGHT HELP.

I've laquered and SLX25 and CLX22 of ours on several ocassions. The method I used was to spray a couple of very thin coats on each section. The last time I did it was to take the pole apart completely and lay each pole section horizontally over 2 wheelie bins so it was just being supported by the very end on each pole section.
You will be able to spray a thin coat on both sides of the section, leave it to dry for a bit and then move the section round so you can get to the remaining 2 sides. Repeat for a second coat. Leave to dry in a warm place and do the same with the next section. Take your time and don't panic.
If you get a run, leave it until it dries and then sand it down with some very fine water paper.
Before assembly replace all the stop tapes, we use electrical insulation tape and assemble, which will probably be the next day.
You may fine the pole sections don't slide very easily to begin with but any high spots will soon wear off.
Its important that you spray a fine, thin layer of laquer only - you will be in trouble if its too thick. Don't do it when its windy, remove the cars.
I used Gunk engine laquer from Halfords.

WELL THAT GOOD ADVICE TO SPRUCE.I THINK HE WILL WIN.

the most important thing is to do it when the wifes not around as you will have to have them inside to dry hard near a radiator.

This is one that he was doing to rebuild up the wear on the end of the section

I find replacing levers stops slipping.
Was amazed how much the levers had worn where the circular end rubs against the clamp body when opening and closing.
Not a permanent fix by all means, but does help for a while.

Good point - one the the reasons why Alex also suggests cutting the old clamps off and replacing them with new.
Personally, if there is that much wear on the clamps, would I not rather put the money (£30 + VAT on a CLX 22 pole) toward a new pole (£117 + VAT).
My CLX has last 2 1/2 years so I'm more than happy to retire it.
It maybe worth replacing clamps on a Carbon fibre pole though, although the first thing I would also look at is just replacing the levers.

I Laquer my Elite carbon on a regular basis wished i had done it from day one to keep pole looking brand new looks worn after almost 20 months .
Section 1 has worn more than any other section . Leave laquer to cure for a full 24 hrs otherwise it will come as not fully hardened . Mike

Hi Mike
You can't do it too soon as you need some wear to take place so you have a decent surface for your laquer to key onto.

You have to stand up to them boys, tell them without the poles there is no money for hairdressers and manicures!
I am unmarried though ;D

Great thread.. (http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/Themes/classic/images/post/thumbup.gif)
I'm just in the process of spraying lacquer onto my CLX22..
I was going to go for 5 coats.. then re-read this and stopped at coat no. 2 :o
How long does the lacquer last, does it wear quite well?
-
Put mine in the airing cupboard over night to help it dry off.. Rubbed it down in the morning and now works perfect again :)
-
Working in the rain tends to make them wear out quicker i find .
