Title: Christmas Cards, Yae or Nay
Post by: Richard Shepherd on December 08, 2012, 10:05:46 am
I was talking to a fellow windie this week and he told me he had spent two nights posting christmas cards to all his custies.

Thats nice of you I said,

Its amazing what a difference it makes to tips, says he.   :o

I was considering posting them myself to wish customers a merry christmas, but don't want customers to feel obliged to give tips...

What would you think if YOUR windie sent you a card? I'd feel awkward and think they were after a tip. Next chance I have, I'd change windies. Only my opinion, and everyone sees things their way I suupose. I've never done this in over 20 years.
I've found that when I forst started, I was a lot cheaper than I work for now and got a lot of tips. Now my prices are higher, I get less tips. Dunno if that tells me anything, but a tip is a tip, if I get one, good, if not, so what?

I have done this every year since a started to say happy Christmas and thanked them  for their custom, I also no not to give a card to mrs L as she is Jewish and its offensive to her.
We don't get tips like we used to, tbh I'm not bothered about them.

I've never given out a single card. Still got the same customers. Waste of money.

Does your postman give you a card, does the dustman give you a card, does your hairdresser give you a card, does your plumber give you a card - what's the point?

My bin man is what I affectionately call a 'scab' worker; stole the job from the local council employees whilst they were in negotiation over cuts.

No scruples, no values, no Christmas tip.

No im the same. It's nice to get a tip as a form of recognition but I don't feel I need to be tipped.
So far i've only received a few fivers here and there but I am seriously considering saving any tips I get and giving it to charity in the new year.
Hopefully might make a small difference to someone else.

We give out Christmas cards - it's not to promp for a tip ( we never expect a tip as we charge a fair/good price for our service ) and is given after custy makes payment

it's nice to let the customer we apprieciate the customer and with the card is our newsletter, which amoung other things promotes other services

I'd say about 25% of customers give us cards so you look a bit like a scrooge if you don't have one to return  ;)
