Title: Another use for poles...
Post by: FCS on December 04, 2012, 11:06:13 pm
WARNING: may contain images of misuse of fishing poles (offending fishers),converted to window cleaning poles (offending window cleaners), being used for photography (offending both).

My carbon fibre poles have found a new use, as a DIY automotive rig so I can take photos for my mates website (www.carproductstested.com)

This is the setup....

And it produces this shot..

Anyone want some promo pics of their vans ?

Is the pole attached to the car in the shot ? I guess its photo shopped out ?
You've inspired me now
Been thinking of making a camera boom out of an old pole for filming at a mates activity center where we go mountainboarding ( think all terrain skateboard meets snowboard with wheels). ;)

Aye, the pole's attached to the car by two sets of suckers used for carrying glass.

The camera's attached to the pole, and because the car and camera are moving at the same speed, on a long exposure (3-4 seconds) the background goes blurry giving the impression of speed but the car remains sharp.

(this was at less than walking speed, just by taking the handbrake off on a slight camber in the road!)

Couldn't you just have taken a still and then photoshop'd in the blur? :)

Looks really good though! :)

Yep, you COULD but it wouldn't be the same. It'd be really difficult to get the correct amount of blur graduating out from the foreground to the background. And I'm not that good in Photoshop. And it's fun to faff.

I reckon 5-6 hours in Photoshop, and it wouldn't look as good. Opposed to 30mins to take the photo and 30mins to process in Photoshop

One of my customers who is a photographer was asking about using poles for architectural photography.

Yeah I agree.

I'm not taking a dig or anything, just saying!

Really do like the photo! :)
