Title: 2 very annoying customers...
Post by: Jakey boy on December 02, 2012, 04:30:32 pm
I've got two custys in the same area that both owe 3 lots of cleans, my problem is when I went collecting they agreed to pay online, but a week later, no sign of that. One owes 30 and the other 24,

I'm out of ideas, because they haven't mentioned cancelling, but I don't want to keep going round there for the money in between there next monthly clean, because its getting embarrassing quite frankly! I turn up, and they are very embarrassed as am I that they 'keep forgetting to pay'

Do you guys think I should just miss them out next month, and perhaps put a note through explaining until they pay,I don't want to clean there windows and rack up a huge bill...?

It's so frustrating, it's over 50 quid that I could do with in my petrol tank or bank!

Call them up and agree a time to collect the cash, if they mess that up or let you down then you know where you stand, knocked.  Then send them a letter, it's a shame that people let us down mate, not everyone has our ethics.

If I trust them, I just keep on cleaning and leaving notes.  They make the effort in the end.

the windy is often put to the back of thequeue  . often they think oh i'll pay them next tiime. call or send a text asking for money owed. when you chase they realise you need paying ...they'll pay ... some need reminding

Yeah I mean I've had late payers before, but these just say 'oh yeah I pay tomorrow' etc, to be honest I think they're skint most of the time, but the trouble is its only gonna get worse as they leave it longer!

Is there any legal way of getting the money by the way? I had a customer about a year ago agree to have there windows cleaned, and after 4 cleans and repeated knocks on the door, they never paid, so it was effectively 40 quid of cleans for nothing, trouble is they sign no contract, so what can we do?

Yeah I'll have to get there contact number to do so, they are fairly new custys so I haven't got there numbers, they both agreed to pay online,

I'd feel a bit strange asking for there number now to arrange a time, just because ill be even worse if they start ignoring phone calls etc, I don't really want to lose them, but perhaps I'm gonna have to knock them off, so annoying!!

Lesson learned. New customers only get one clean credit from me.

Yeah, but you still have that hope they will pay..

dont go passed 2 cleans ,after that do the reminder if no payment  just wipe them off the list. you can sense a bad payer rather than a forgetful type.

Some customers of mine have built a good enough reputation for me to allow them to go several cleans before they pay, but they do pay eventually. Others, I get a gut feeling about and suspend their cleans until they pay.
I keep them on the books at the moment, as I live in the hope that they will see the error of their ways and get to appreciate the service I offer by paying within a reasonable time.

I don't get stressed about it. I am still building my run and won't stop until I have a decent, refined run with the best possible customers, when the latter type of customers as described above will be history.

God only knows why you let them go so long cleaning without being paid?
I bet they get their salaries each month, without fail. I can also imagine the uproar they would make if it's their benefits that have not been paid.

Toughen up, don't be so nice. To succeed in this game you have to dump and replace messers and bad payers and increase your prices regularly.

No offence bud but if you don'[t value your service, the messers never will.

And I'm not

Problem simply is that theyre reasonable sums of money, leave them more than one clean owing and you're running the risk of sticking a sizeable bill in their faces for two cleans, which wont be welcome this time of year.

Saying that, its christmas soon, dont you need the money? It is your money, go round this evening collect whats owed; and then come back on here to tell us youve collected it.

The reason I've left it up to 3 cleans is they said they'd pay online, and for the sake of 10 mins work in the estate I do them each month I've been, it's not like there hard houses to clean, I have a whole day there

I'm not the sort to get to harsh with them yet, I'll miss them out next month, and knock and ask for the money, it's frustrating but I'm not in dire need of the money, but of course I want it!

I'm 24, so luckily at this time of year I'm still getting more presents than I buy!

If I had a family to feed, I'd probably have gone round there with a baseball bat  ;)

Ha ha, I'm not unsuccessful! I'm young and have built a decent sized round, much better than all me mates earning diddly squat in 9-5 office jobs,

Don't get me wrong there's room for a lot more custys, hence giving these a chance,

I've been round many times to collect, so it's not a case of toughening up, because I know all that'll happen is they'll refuse to answer the door completely if I give them attitude or a demanding tone, I'll keep probing, and if unsuccessful tell them to pay and I'll no longer do it,

There's no easy way of going about it, all I can do is wait and keep asking, ill get it eventually, determined too!

I asked them too, one said they don't have a cheque book, the other said it will bounce, I don't get paid till this week - trouble is I've asked them for a cheque the previous month too, is time round I said 'here's my details, pay online when you have been paid'

To no avail....

I did not mean to kick you in the nads.
I was replying to the fact you were asking what to do coupled with the fact £50 would be better in your bank.
Toughen up means don't keep messers, drop them. (not threaten them.)
"Been round collecting many times" is adding to the debt and wasteing mo9re of your time and energy
Hey, no worries. Its your business run it how you see fit.

Yeah I see your points, but they don't particularly help me get the money, I will drop them if they don't show me they are competent enough to pay, but in the mean time I just want the money,

In the end it's there wallets they've gotta dig into, all I can do it seems is knock and ask, then, when I finally get the money ill probably say to them 'do you think it's best I leave you off the list, and perhaps only do your house if you have the cash on you and pay me on the day...'

I do a lot of houses in there estate, so it's no bother driving round there, as I'm there collecting each month anyway, likewise its not much bother spending 10 mins cleaning them, I'm there anyway.

It'll all work out, the beauty of window cleaning is we have a multitude of customers who do pay, so I won't go hungry over these two duffers, - just a bit frustrating...

Hey ho, tomorrow's gonna be a cold day, lets all save the energy for that!

Peace be with you joe  ;D no hard feelings...

1 clean 1 payment

I have a customer £20 a time. Hadn't seen them until the fourth clean and then she wrote me a cheque for £80. Neither of us batted an eyelid.

I have another customer that owed 4 x £8 and so I missed her out next time but caught her in on collecting night. I said it may be best to stop cleaning them  to allow her to catch up paying. She paid £20 and now owes £12.  She still wants them done but will wait until she's in the clear.

I have other customers that owe me £8 and I've dropped them and waived the money.
