Title: Pressure problem, pls help
Post by: VSP Home Care on December 02, 2012, 03:47:51 pm
Hi chaps, I don't do a lot of windows and last month when I did them I had a nightmare with my setup.  I was using a 50m reel and a sureflow setup.  The pump kept cutting out due to pressure, then back in again a few seconds later.

So today I thought I'd have a look at it as it's windows week  ;D

Still behaving in exactly the same way  >:(  I've swapped the pumps, hose reel and used two different pole setups.....   Full power one second then nothing, then back again!!

When I set the pump to 1-3 it runs with no problem, apart from not having enough guts to get a good fan at the jets.  When I increase to 4-5 I get a good fan jet for a few seconds then boom it cuts out and the controller shows P for the pressure being reached.

Someone please advise before my head goes bang or my fingers fall off, this is not how I want to spend my first day off in three weeks  :(

Pressure cut off mate- or as some call it "calibration"

You need to up it, it's because of the cold weather- water more dense (apparently) & less to no flexibility in all aspects of your system.

I was wondering about that, I held both the buttons down on the controller and whacked it up to 8 and back down to 2, didn't seem to make any difference  ???

depends on controller but you need to put it up to say 8 if that is high on your controller and run pump for 3-4 mins it is no good putting cal at 8 then turning it down to 2 when you are cleaning first floor windows the pressure  needed is much greater than ground floor windows more so with water that is stone cold . If it's a varistream what you did wouldn't make any difference anyway, as the value has to be changed from the "flashing" menu & then the unit turned off then back on to actually activate & save the new setting.

Good point guys, I was only running it on the ground... washing the car as it happens, well trying to!  Ok thanks for the pointer, I'll check it again tomorrow and switch it off then back on.

Can't believe I forgot that  :-[

Many thanks

If you over tighten the pump connections this can happen.
Loosen them off a little.

Same as Bob.
Its sounds like the battery to me. put a fresh one on and see what happens.

Depending on your controller you should be able to to see if your battery needs charging or not .

My pump would cut out when pole was  extended to first floor height if my Calibration was set to low then as soon as i lowered the pole even by 2 ft the pump would kick in and water would come out of jets .

I would then increase my Cal , If you dont already know how to adjust your Cal and save the setting you need to maybe contact a supplier and ask them to provide you with the info . Mike

We seem to have a problem with this kit at this time of year. I don`t use a controller and thinking of getting one, but having heard all this. No thanks.

i had something similar last year .swapped the pump and the controller . but it made no difference .a mate came round and looked ay my hozelock connectors . the one that was connected to the hose reel was a stop one and was worn inside . he took it off knocked the stop bit out with a screw driver and put it back on . its worked fine since . he told me not to have any stop ones anywhere . hope this helps

If you use a pump controller, it shouldn't be necessary to have the pressure switch in circuit as the controller detects a dead end and cuts the pump.  Just disconnect the power feed to the pressure switch and reconnect it direct to the positive side of the pump.
