Title: 650 or 1000
Post by: ShineySimpson on December 02, 2012, 05:45:04 am
Good morning all

Does anyone know the payload of a swb ford transit 75 yr2000 ?
I want to fit a 1000 ltr tank at the front along with a gutter vac and jet wash, just writing this it sounds a lot.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dont know my self mate but the new ford transit connect has a payload of 1600 kg surely a SWB Transit will have a lower payload than that .

With a 1000 ltr tank unless it is factory fitted with certificate  you will be lucky to get insured and the weight of tank plus water will weigh 1065kg plus your other bits and fuel you will be lucky to stay within payload .

And if you do i think it will be risky i was looking on a WFP website the other day and they seemed to be indicating that they would fit certain size tanks to vehicles which was well under their maximum payload . Mike

No you cant as the Ford Transit swb 00-06 has a max payload of 953kg.

The new for transit connect lwb 330 2.2 155ps (top of the range by the looks of it) has a max payload of 1112kg

You need to find out the exact model to find out the exact payload, here is a link to help you. Remember the tank is +65kg ontop of the 1000kg for the water, add your weight, fuel, poles, reels, equipment, gutter vac, genny etc and your probably wanting a 1.5T payload unless you have a trailer

You will need to tell us the model ie 260/280/300, that relates to the payload of the van

Looks like you may have to fit a smaller.tank than 650 otherwise you will be knackered if ever pulled over by police .

And if you are in a accident fully loaded and someone is injured they will through the book at you , sorry mate Mike

The biggest load capacity is a short wheelbase 330 with a payload of 1,350Kg (ish)

1000 Kg water
50Kg or so tank and frame
100Kg You
70Kg fuel

Only leaves 130Kg for all your equipment.  And a passenger if you work two to a van.  Just about doable for window cleaning (my four poles are under 15Kg), not if you have a guttervac and jetwash.

You need to be up in to the renault master type vans, the big things with 1500kg plus.Or you could get the vivaro/trafic LWB LL29 spec at roughly 1200kg`s and run with 800 litres or less. You could start the day full but have a drain tap readily available to dump water as they escort you to the weighbridge.

Nobody should overload their van or truck your braking distance at speed is greatly reduced with the weight we carry as window cleaners .

Overloading far to much could cost someone's life and nobody wants that , Fully loaded i carry approx 600 kg my Trucks payload is 1200 kg . Mike

you will need at least the 150 (T330) if your planning on 1000 ltrs of water
insurance gets restrictive after 650 ltrs and impossible for anything over 1000
and will need to be fitted.

a good cheap alternate is the LDV Maxus 3.5t - easily carries a tonne of water plus all the x's like gutter vac

2.5 diesel that returns about 35 to the gallon

I personally would not want 1000 litres of water sitting behind me!
