Title: RIP Hugh Winfield
Post by: Fin Clearview on November 24, 2012, 09:23:20 am
I didnt know this fellow Brighton wc but someone told me last week and today it is in the local paper.

Hugh Winfield died whilst cleaning windows and falling from 15ft as a result of getting his foot caught in the ladder.
A much loved father of seven, who was due to become a grandfather again.

RIP.

I can't find anything on the Evening Argus website and as yet, today's paper hasn't been delivered yet which is sods law as it's normally here by 9am.

Sadly, it is true. I've just seen it in today's Brighton Evening Argus. I can't post a link to the newspaper's website as the story doesn't seem to be on there.

I knew him but only to stop and have a quick chat with.

Poor bloke and how devastating for the family.

Yup. RIP.

A quick google of his name brings him to the first page of google for the wrong reasons.

I was speaking with another window cleaner who knew him quiet well and he said the bloke had a very gun ho attitude towards using ladders and it was far from his first fall. He'd also badly injured his foot due to another fall a few years ago and still had problems with it.

He died last Tuesday and it was raining and very windy here all day so maybe that was a major factor as well as his foot.

I really feel for his wife and family though.

The thing about the dog, the local paper ran with the headline about the dog as well. It read 'Heart broken dog dies two days after his owner'. I think that is a shamefull and appalling way to report someones death.

The inquest was inconclusive.

According to another window cleaner who said he went to the inquest, nothing was asked or said about the weather conditions at the time.

Maybe the reason he didn't jump was because of the problem he was still having with his ankle from a previous fall but nothing was asked or said about that either... apparently. Still, it does seem odd because I would have thought it a reflex to jump from a ladder falling sideways.
