I was cleaning a cord carpet for a lady with my portable extracta, and it looked pretty dirty. When i had finished, the lady said it did'nt kook any better. She said the carpet had been a light brown in colour when it was laid some 12 years previous. I was miffed by this, but noticed that where the carpet was also fitted inside a cupboard under the stairs, it was also a dark brown colour. I explained to her that is must be a thing about this type of carpet which she accepted and that it was not dirt as it would be cleaner inside the cupboard as no use unlike the passageway.

Cleaning a restaurant carpet the other month, the carpet was similar cord, and my truck mount would not touch it, yet where a solvent product was used, it was bringing it back to its original colour. The carpet was only 12 months old.

Does cord carpet change colour over time? Has anyone else noticed this phenomenum?

Try bonnet cleaning? I used to clean a lot of this type of carpet using hwe and never got a satisfactory result until i started using bonnet cleaning for all low profile carpet.hope this helps stu Clark.

Thank's Stu, i'll try this, but why is cord carpet behaving like this? Not localised stains, but the whole carpet seems to darken, and only the solvent up to now does anything.

Just add grease breaker to your prespray.

spot on what pre spray were you using and what solvent for what ???

If solvents seem to be working then grease breaker would be a good additive to an enzyme prespray on a restaurant, or fast break as a solvent presparay

I was using prochem products, trafficlean pre spray at 10.5ph and carpet clean xl at 9.5ph at full heat with a truck mount. The carpet was a cheap and nasty cord one which was i believe layed over the old carpet. Prochem solvex however was returning the original colour.

There must be something about cord carpets completly changing colour
