Dont think there is any that is 100% reliable but i usually use the bbc website (not long range) and http://www.netweather.tv/ which will show about 2 weeks ahead. Hope this helps. Wayne.

Google GRIB - it's a weather data centre that many forecasters use.

5 days is the longest reliable forecast you can get.

GRIB uses a system called GFS (global forecasting system), and no, sorry, most forecaster definitely don't use it. Forecasters are the people who interpret GFS, etc, and produce weather forecasts from it.

A simple to use GFS chart.

http://www.ukweatherworld.co.uk/plotter/gfs-v2.asp

Chose area then country then the date.

Then either chose from the bottom left

'precipitation rate (mm per hour)'

or

'10m wind' which is in knots and not mph.

Then click on 'make plot'

It may take a bit of time to get used to but it's worth it.

For trends over the coming months some go by the + or - state of the North Atlantic Oscillation ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Atlantic_oscillation ) and others go by El Nino ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Ni%C3%B1o%E2%80%93Southern_Oscillation ).

I should clarify - by forecasters I mean Maritime Application - I have a sea faring friend and this was his suggestion.

No worries.

The weather has been my main interest for about 40 years since I was a kid.

Certainly sounds like you know your stuff  ;D
I tried GRIB but couldn't seem to interpret the data particularly well so now rely on The Weather Channel and a few apps. I use the theory that if you take enough of the forecasts and try to find the average then you might be right...

Your eyes i watch the national and local weather on BBC as a guide it is never 100% accurate nothing is .

Every morning i get up and am prepared to do a full days work regardless of forecast if the weather stops me working so be it , I used to get to wrapped up with weather forecast years ago their is no point as it will always do what it wants . Mike

This is excellent: http://www.yr.no/place/United_Kingdom/Wales/Pentre_Galar/hour_by_hour_detailed.html

Obviously you have to put your own details in. It was spot on again yesterday, to within 1/2 of when it would start and stop.

I used to use Metcheck, but their site was unreliable. Don't know if it's ay different now. I also use http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=uk7dayx7;ct=7948~Crymych;sess=#forecast

As ross says anything over 5 days is guess work.

I followed a few they all let you down 48 hrs I look in front thats it.

Find this BBC one 70% accurate, just think it's laid out nice, easy to read, understand.

I've very slowly  :-[ learnt to get my must have wage in 3.5 days I work mon-sat (not often saturday, but if i have too)

This takes the stress out of weather forecasts.

Also cut the texting the custy lark to an absolute minimum now ;)
