Hello everyone, I have been thinking of window cleaning for some time, as I struggle with my day job, not like I want to quit my day job, I like what I'm doing but the money is not enough. Thing is, I have 4 on 4 off shifts, and looking for another part time job for 1-2 days extra a week, but not much luck so far. So I've been thinking about WC, just don't know, to start up a business(not sure is it reasonable for 1-2 day job a week) or maybe there is someone in Gravesend area who needs some help 1-2 days a week?
Any suggestions, comments welcome.

No reason why not. Only problem might be if you are restricted to specific days to clean windows, and then it pees down on those days, you can't go out the next day to make up because you have your other job to do so the work will immediately be at least a week late.

start door knocking now-you should catch a few wanting clean windows for Xmas, will get you started . dont delay or you will get cold feet

No, my day job is not that interesting :)
Basically I'm looking in to WC to earn some 300-500 extra a month. Would it be even possible make that much in 8-10 days a month?

Yes, quite readily.

I can guess Christmas is approaching and you're after some cash; however; long term, you could start up your own little round and grow that. You'd earn more that way; however, working for another window cleaner will show you the ropes.
Anyone can clean a window, but making a living out of it is a different matter.
Why not do a google search of window cleaners in your area and phone them?

good man mick, I just offered the same to a mate out of work, and so did someone closer and he offered to give him about £100 worth of work also to start him off and he refused us both ???

He can't of been serious about starting up, I would of snapped someone's hand off if they had offered me that when I started .
I'm fact I still would now as building up pretty slow .

Perhaps he refused, as he was not interested in doing WC at the first place. I spoke to one of my mates that I want to start WC, and he said that he would't even consider doing something like that. For some people WC job is something only for people who cant get any other job.

At least I'm not the only one, what number would be too much for a new starter? How much time you spend in these 4 days off on WC?

i love letting people i can make between £15 £25 £30 per hour, its a pity its not consistant. not enough work on. come back spring ???

Depends how many days a week you want to work.
I used to do 2 but I've just cut it to 1.
You might have different circumstances and want to work more.
Even now it may be more than one, if some are overdue I might work extra days, then later on in the cycle I'll probably have a free week if all goes to plan and I don't get any more delays.
Let's say you start off trad (which I recommend because of the low start up cost)
What you do in 6 hours now you might do in 3 or 4 once your up to speed.
It's hard to judge what you should take on houses come in all shapes and sizes but I'd say if you had fairly standard 3 bed semis quite compact you'd be looking to clean 3 or 4 per hour.
However work like this is at a premium if you were to buy it.
I'd say it's pretty difficult to canvass work this compact.
If they aren't compact you'll be lucky to do 2 an hour.
Take into consideration also the hazards of working trad on your own at this time of year when the ground is a bit slimy.
If I was you I'd go work with a window cleaner for a day & see if you like it.
It's not for everyone especially in winter or on hot days in summer.
I've had physically hard jobs in my time so I found wc fairly easy when I first started but I know one or 2 people who found it a real shock to the system.
Basically it's the same as anything else you get out what you put in.

Thanks DG Cleaning, I'm looking into traditional, and my goal to work 1-2 days a week and make like £50-100. Just I'm not quiet sure how to canvass, so I would go with flyers instead. I know it's not the best way, but I'm not looking in to getting as many customers a possible at start, as you mentioned I'll need some time to practice and get up in speed.

Anyone else is working somewhere close to Gravesend? I haven't herd anything from Mick since, maybe there is somebody who needs some help or who could take me with him for couple days and show me the ropes?
