Title: Anti Freeze
Post by: Lee Burbidge on November 12, 2012, 11:39:00 am
They say we are going to experience another record breaking winter this year? Do any of you guys use anti-freeze to clean windows with or do you just dont go out at all?

We got down to -22 a couple of years ago.

Anti-freeze or not you are not cleaning in that. In general anything below -7 you are going to struggle even with hot water or antifreeze.

'They' said the exact same thing last year if I recall correct..............

Mmmmm who says? Cos I remember last year they said the same thing but it didn't happen. Anyways 2 years ago I had some custys funny with me cos I cleaned the windows with snow on the ground as they were worried the water would freeze on the floor and a slip hazard.
So reluctant to do that again. Just have to make sure we saved enough for the bad weather I suppose. Anyways hopefully they will be wrong again!!  ???
Cheers

Anti freeze is just a name you give to something that prevents freezing.

Ah so you're not talking about antifreeze used in cars but
IPA , well the advert is misleading as IPA needs to be diluted at
10% IPA to 90% water to stop the water freezing , but only
Works down to -4 then you will need to increase ratio.
It's not cost effective . But if you insist on trying it ,you'll be
Better of buy from ,litho supplies or Dow chemicals
But don't bother, average van carries / uses 400ltres water
So min IPA will need to be 40-50litres which equates to
A van with a driver that's as high as a kite on fumes and
Skint .

I have never used the stuff so I dunno if it would be cost effective or not. According to the claims on the advert it should be, but I have my doubts.

I have used screenwash for trad in the past and it works down to about -7ish anything lower you just get blue ice on the window.

Hot water freezes on the glass just the same as cold water does, but a hot tank will stay warm till lunchtime so at least your wfp machine (if you have one) will still run.
