Post by: lee andrew on November 09, 2012, 03:59:48 pm
Iv made a Quote for a job and all is agreed But im now semi happy, and realised i could of gone £10 even £20 more (more like £20). What should i do? im new but have a small round going and slowly getting bigger, so im going to honour my price as it gets me out there, and i have made sure that i havnt under cut someone else just done myself up, anyone else done the same?

Looking at some of the jobs I quoted when I first started I kick myself now and think  "How could I have been that b*****y stupid!!"
Sad thing is I still c**k some up I find pricing much harder than cleaning the windows :(.
I think you're not alone on this Lee.

The biggest problem with under price work is when they put you onto a friend.
Then the friend wonders why you quote them higher lol

Tell them  you have made a mistake and ££ is the correct price

Your only human If they  arnt happy then apologise and walk away
Or say nothing and do the work you ain't happy with

I no what I do when I stuff up and not lost one yet
(It's only happened twice)

Cheers

Easy solution...

When you go to start the job, politly ask the customer if they want the frames n sills cleaned at the same time as the windows, but make them aware that it will be an extra £10/£20  ;D

Worth a try  ;D

Lee Andrew,

just put it down to gaining a bit of experience and take your time quoting next time, dont be rushed by anyone.

I would clean it regularly because you may get other work from it, and look for other things to increase your price like signs etc.

After about 6 months increase the price, once you have done a good job and arrive on time, you should have no problems at all.

I have miss quoted in the past and have cleaned the work, but just lastweek i turned a job down immediatly as they wanted a price straight away and i wont be rushed. The job itself would have been about £1,000 per clean but because i wouldnt be rushed i told them i needed to look properly at the job rather than pictures.

By keeping to your values and wanting that time to quote correctly, you will not go far wrong in the future.

quoted a detached bunalow for £10 once, got the job but while i was quoting next door i looked back and noticed i missed a few skylights on roof so called back straight away and added £4 and they said no problem. I know its bit less than you but would just explain urself and say u made a mistake rather than doing grudge clean.

Truthfully and it hurts to say, I could of doubled it, and got the job, I've done a good job in the past a few shop fronts (small fronts) £5 5minute jobs no ladder needed buts this is top and bottom which wouldn't be so bad but these are panelled and should be 20 top and bottom it's about 45 min job, just an error on my behalf will have a word during the week and see what I can come up with, if not I will do them and take it on the chin

fate usually will reward you on a job like that. likely they will spread the word that you are a grafter rather than a greedy monkey if you get my drift

would just like to say thanks you was right, the pub job was long winded and a give away but land lady was really impressed one with time spent and end result ( she knows iv made a mistake ) but iv gained 3 shop fronts every 2 weeks at a good price, so i will continue with the pub as every 2 months she wants inside out, top and bottom ( i will price that up better ) so thanks for postive advice ;D

If its a £10 job that should've been £30 ask if you can do any other jobs for them-gutters etc and look at a years costs to make it up.
If its a £1k job you wanted £1020 for-suck it up.

As above depends on percentage i have a 12 wk commercial clean which i  feel i under priced by about £10-15.

And have been kicking myself since i got it did for the 3rd time yesterday and got finished a lot quicker than before now i dont feel so bad as i know i could not make that kind of money on residential in the same amount of time .

It will be going up by £10 next year  . Mike
