I was called to look at a pigmented leather sofa as the pigment on the arm and headrest is peeling away. Its only 2 years old and csl have attempted to repair the arm (at the cost of £48 and 30 minutes) but its back to peeling away.
Elderly couple are not happy and feel they have been ripped off as suite was £2400
I don't want to attempt a repair as it will land in my lap if it outdoes last.
Has anyone any advise on best way for them to approach the shop over this.
Apparently the csl technician told them it was the oil in the skin causing it ???
Surely the suite isn't fit for the use it was intended for?

Very possibly, or using baby wipes/furniture polish to clean it.
I had one last week. Applied cleaner then as soon as I run the mf cloth over the head area I could feel what can only be described as a 'dry slightly rough feel' going on. I knew exactly what was going to happen next so called the owner to explain. They accepted head grease as the reason. They didn't want to pay for recolouring so the only option was to peel as much off as it would allow and tell them to buy some of those covers for the head area.
Luckily I know about this situation but if someone who didn't came along and started cleaning and this happened, they could easily have been held accountable.
I really suspect the shop will have all the bases covered on responsibility.

I once had something simular where the customer had a skin complaint and used a cream to moisture the problem however I tried to re colour it the darn thing would not accept the dye it just wouldn't dry properly, ended up just cleaning the dye off and giving money back.

Always degrease if there is a possible grease/adhesion problem - a Leather Primer will also help in situations like this.
