Went to do a cinema yesterday for one of my commercial clients who subcontract me in asked me for a price to clean 15 chairs and carpets, upon a arrival chairs were actually sofas to which I said they had been misquoted. Who is responsible myself or the commercial client ?
-
You decide
-
I did but as they pass me quite a bit work was in a bit of a dilemma £2.50 x 15 sofas that were badly stained it was a no brainer for me and they weren't prepared to pay the extra unless they passed it onto their client
-
As i said, you decide. You have the info and the history.
-
To most of us a chair is a single seater piece of furniture so you'll have to either explain it and risk losing the contract if they want to hold you to it, or put it down to experience.
I always ask when the call comes in how many can be comfortably sat on the sofa in question, because there are some 2 cushion sofas you can easily sit 5 on.

Neil, depends on how big you are :)

I see you're on form tonight ;D

was in a bit of a dilemma £2.50 x 15 sofas
Are you telling us you quoted £2.50 each........ and they thought that was for a sofa.
If so I think someone's taking the p8ss
-
how much was you getting for the carpet?
on the chairs tell them straight, you were told 'chairs' they are sofas..... you are not being unreasonable to want to adjust the price
-
If a genuine mistake I would reach a comprimise, state my normal price and offer a suitable discount based on the value of past and future work.
-
If its a case of wanting to keep the work and not upset but also wanting to earn what you would normally charge given the right description why not ask them to agree to future cleaning at the correct price and you'll let it pass this time with the quote you provided. Alternatively you could asked them to have more carpets cleaned this time to make it worth your while taking a technician along.
£2.50 a sofa is cheap tho, just depends how long you think it will take.
-
I once quoted for square ft only to find it was sq mts.
Stood by the price and had shedloads of work from the customer afterwards.
We always had a laff over it later.
-
if it were me i'd phone the company and say sorry but you said chairs these are sofas and adjust price accordingly what they gonna do phone someone to do them for £2.50 i don't think so give them an overall discount through the mix up but don't do them for £2.50.
-
Steve, what you doing charging those prices, surely at the least you meant 25 quid.
-
in what other industry would any one suggest not telling them the correct price and expect them to pay it?
I'll ring up a car paintshop them and ask them to re-spray my car.... then turn up with a double Decker bus :o ....of course they will still do it at the same price but tell me next time I will pay the real price..... in my dreams! they will want the right price
sofas are not what the price was based on they said chairs

Only offering up an opinion Mike.
It's a nice analogy the whole bus getting resprayed story but in reality it's nothing like what has happened. Just like saying buy one get one free on pasta and sauce is the same as buy one get one free on buying a car. Not only is buying pasta and sauce something that happens on a regular occurrence it is also a much cheaper loss for the manufacturer. Whereas car buying happens very rarely and is a massive loss for the manufacturer if it's BOGOF.
Carpet cleaning costs us a fraction of the cost of what respraying a whole vehicle does, and happens more regularly, hence why if bringing up the costing might cause a lost customer is it really worth it? Also please no-one say 'it's all relative', because it isn't!
-
Although saying all that I don't actually think I could do it for £2.50 per sofa even if I'd said it, they must of thought they where onto a winner, you'd probably come in Nader minimum wage cleaning those sofas as well. You could always sue :)

Steve tell them as it is Chairs aint Sofas wrong information wrong price wright information wright price simple really.
