I have had one for about 5 months, it is very clever bit of kit that plugs into base of my phone. Only a handful of customers have Mastercard's. But according to izettle Visa acceptance is very close. Of all the customers I have spoken to, most think its a great idea. So as soon as Visa is up and running properly this will become a great form of payment. Payment on the day is always best!

Souter do use the square reader? Thought it was only US based? If that works in the UK with VISA I'm signing up today!

No I've never used it.

I have no idea if it works in the UK. I just assumed it did.

Paypal is not cheap.

We have a CNP machine at the office, if someone says they have lost their cheque book / no cash / whatever,  our lads phone the office hand the customer the phone and say 'no problem you can pay by card over the telephone'.

Yes, but when I had a merchant account for a website it was 18p for debit cards. As a wc I see no benefit in Paypal or any other system that charges 2.75%. Bacs, cheque or cash is enough I think.

Between 5-10% of my customers pay by card.

The main benefit of Paypal as I see it is that it is a trusted brand. Some people (granted it's a minority) are wary about dishing out card details. Paypal can be another string to your bow. Just state that if they want to pay that way they cover the charges. I do not charge for payments though as for me it works out about the same as postage.

Another advantage of taking card payments is debt recovery, if you have an overdue customers phone number you can phone them up and ask for payment via card, if you have their email address you can send them a pay by link email. If you have half decent round software this could even be done automatically with any references already filled in.

Hi
hubby and I both use izettle It's better than having to carry lots of money about with you. We still have to collect as not all cards are accepted ,but I think that will be soon
