Hi Lyn Selfclean, it reminds me of what weatherspoons have done to the pub trade, and its sad, the only thing I can suggest to the average cc company, approach the big cleaning companies about becoming a sub-contractors, you will always be busy and earn a good living, but its not easy, but this is only an idea....................Keep busy Lyn

lol yes i spotted that steve, must be a miss print ? or do they mean 94 pence each tread?leaflet reminds me of a firm that used to be about
when i first started their was a country wide firm called homeclean this was back in about 94 ish  now they used to drop millions of leaflets all over the country each area say essex for instance had a area manger who used to giv the work out to the guys in his area and he got 10% cut of their  money as well as working himself  and all the cleaners had to buy thier machines of homeclean which were £1000 pound machines made by woodbridge and sold to them for stupid money £3-4000 !!! and all the cleaners got was 25% of what they took on a job !!!
and they were doing l/r for £12 then it was owned by an irish guy called henry allways rember him as i met him once and although this guy made money outer the cleaning his main scam was recuiting these guys selling them a crap machine for loads dosh  promising them loads of jobs but then giving them crap all so they got fed up and left and he move on to recuiting more suckers he done this from about 1988 till the last i heard of them was about 1997, but i hav come across a few cleaners who got done by homeclean in fact i employed a few for a while , they used to advertise in all the big nat papers
p.s this is also were u find the phrase "splash n dash" came from

have a look at this tripe then.

No matter what you think of this, the will get a huge volume of work............Why ?.........
because they are making themselves known, even without the low prices, this leaflet would pull in work.

On the bright side.

Their leaflet will stimulate interest in many of your clients, so, WHAT YOU GONNA DO ?

That's right, get your letter, or whatever you use to remind your clients, that  ' it's been a while '
or whatever.

Ignore at your peril

beats me why you are all panicking. i havent been in the game long but my imoression is that most peole have had or known about bad experience with c/cs. talk of tide marks and shrinkage due to the splash and dash from years back. people feel safer not cleaning the carpet. its up to us to convince them that there are professionals in the game who care about customer satisfaction and do the job right at a fair price. not easy but what is!? if you have a client base why on earth would they leave!!? if you are doing a good job with a fair price then i would not worry . also if you do get people ringing saying they have found someone cheaper then match the price if only for that time. have confidence in what you do and who you are

Carpetclean

Your assertion that splash and dash, is something from the past couldn't be further from the truth. There are more of these people out there today, than ever and they are frequently charging high prices, with smart advertising and attractive vans.

Calling yourself a professional, is no guarantee that you will deliver the service that a competent , concientious and skilled operator will.

I've been in this business for 20 odd years and regularly find the aftermath of bad cleaning practice, which is often caused by people with good equipment..........

With experience, knowledge and application a good cleaner can clean a suite with a little Karcher and even achieve excellent drying times. Wouldn't recommend it, but I've done it, when machines have been out of use, or when I've committed to a client in a flat...

Scott

Why would they be frauds?

hi gary

no what you mean i used to get sent 30 odd miles to clean a 3pc for £34 and only get 25% of that if u did over a 100 miles in a day you would get an extra £10 wow i did used to make it up to a 100 miles nearly every day though had to get money from somewhere and you used to have to try and sell extras on every job most of that went in my pocket  i stil have the machine in a dark coner of my shed woodbridge twin powermate when i left i did take a few of there customers with me think i deserved that.

Home clean used to run a local newspaper ad asking people if they wanted to run a carpet cleaning business and earn ***** per week.
Arranged a meeting at a local hotel and signed up all the hopefulls. Had a bloke came to see me who had fell for it. He wanted to know if I would be interested in buying his machine. It was worth about 400 quid second hand and he had paid nearly 4 grand for it in weekly instalments. He was telling me they would book, say a lounge in for 11.00 in Morpeth and then a suite in Sunderland at 12.15. This is a distance of about 30-40 miles and you have to get through the congestion on Tyneside.
After I kindly refused the chance to purchase the machine he told me if he or the wife ever seen this guy again they would wring his neck.
