Title: Achy legs at night? Anyone else?
Post by: Jakey boy on October 31, 2012, 05:13:40 pm
Hi all, I'm trad so using ladders, and for as long as I can remember every now and then my legs ache a lot in the evenings, it's a really deep ache, it usually effects my right leg more so then left.

Please don't say 'go wfp' - that's not the point... I'd just like to know if anyone else experiences it, it isn't like the aches you get from a gym work out, it's more of a deep ache all through my legs, I wondered if it was something to do with straining my legs on the ladders somehow? It's very annoying!

I'm very well proportioned! I'm 5ft 8 and weigh 10 and a half stone, zero fat, just seems my right leg suffers the most, it's started aching now, finished work about 2pm, not sure why its happening...

Ha ha, it's definitely not protein, was a gym addict for years and took many a protein shake! My diet is pretty good! And still work out, just not as obsessively!

Yeah true, we all have our own diagnosis, I just wanted to know if anyone else had it, and perhaps I'm straining my legs on the ladders somehow, I'm clueless!

I do go on tip toes a lot on the ladder... Especially when stretching... Could be repetitive strain, but tends to only hurt in the evenings, not so much at work, could be straining the muscles and that's causing aches.

Perhaps I'll try changing my foot position on the ladder...

what make of ladder have you?   some have thinner rungs so your foot tends to claw round to get a grip which is bad for you

Hi Jakey
Try drinking Tonic Water Fever Tree and Q Tonic it's got Quinine in.
Really good analgesic and good for night cramps.

IT could be circulation problems I had that when I did gutter of a ladder. My feet and legs would pain.

Cheers for advice, I'll look into the drink, and perhaps do some stretching, I've got the b&q ladders, with fat rungs, there comfy to stand on, so don't think it's the ladders them selves...

How about a visit to the physiotherapist? They tend to know more about muscles etc, especially sports physios. I don't think they are that expensive either. Worth checking out properly rather than assuming.

Got to agree with Robbo, Ive been cleaning 30 years now, and the only time i remember my legs aching was within the first 3 months of doing the job.
  Good luck.

Statins are tablets you take to reduce cholesterol.
Anyone can have high cholesterol even slim jims like you cos it's made by your liver. Mine makes too much, so much in fact that without the tablets I wouldn't see 50! :o

Worth checking but especially if lots of people died early in your family from heart problems.
Sorry boring comment.

i used to get it most days when i was 100% trad.its all the ladder climbing mate!!

i dont get it now im WFP.my shoulders and arms dont ache either due to very light carbon poles and brushes!

i would knock the gym on the head as well if i were you and go swimming instead as its less strain on your muscles and good for circulation and general fitness.

best wishes

Yeah my family is all pretty healthy, may just be all the ladder work, might take up swimming, don't train legs in the gym, so don't think the gym makes too much difference, I'll ask the doc about cholesterol though!
