none of my staff have ever took more than a day or so as sick and have generally worked saturday to make up for it but think one of my staff is expecting sick pay for being off a week what the procedure for paying as not really on the ball with regards to this
-
Am not sure the amount you have to pay but,the employer has to pay it then HMRC deducts it off your PAYE bill at the end of the month
-
U can tell them to claim it from the DSS or pay it for them and take it off what u pay inland revenue
-
Has he supplied a doctors note?

My accountant deals with this, but your employee needs to produce a sick note, they do not start to get sick pay until day 5 of their normal working week, you should have this covered in your employment contract, you also have to reclaim this money from the inland revenue, normally you deduct what you owe the taxman first and any monies that are owed by the revenue is paid to you after april 5, unless you are suffering from financial hardship, then you need to ask the taxman to pay you earlier.
-
I don't mean to be rude but how long have you been employing? surely your contract of employment covers this? :o
If not, its not much use and you are leaving yourself wide open for being taken to tribunal.
Don't ever fall into the trap of thinking "my guys would not do that to me" .....they will!
if your contract is not water tight you need to deal with it asap.
I would go and see a professional immediately.

ive just had a guy off for 4 months, i gave his sicknote to my accountant,
he was paid ssp, £80.80..
-
Its 3 waiting days and then 85.85 a week. I've recently had one of my lads on the sick for a decent period of time. You can claim it back by knocking it from your monthly/quarterly contributions payments to the HMRC.
Dean.

take it your not best pleased then richy ;)

i thought you had to give them full pay? if you pay £85 a week then people are gonna are not gonna be able to pay their rent/mortgage or buy food! if your staff are genuinely ill then you should look after them, otherwise two weeks of £85 and they'll be homeless!

now you why you should have a real contract of employment drawn up, you cannot get rid of him now, without him taking you to the cleaners

they can still claim, DLA, Housing, Council Tax benefit.
In a ideal world I would love to pay full wages while they are off sick, but if that happened I would soon go out of business and then they won't have a job to come back to.

DO NOT DO THAT, telephone a HR Company and check first, if you don't then you will not have to worry about selling up at xmas, because you won't own it anymore, he will.
