Post by: tompoole on October 29, 2012, 09:12:32 pm
Anyone run transit vans ,?, are they good trucks ? Been offered a
85ps and 115ps not sure whether to go for it, I was looking at
Landrovers but could get a year old transit with my budget.

Yes a T300 85psi very good economy and decent servicing cost from Ford.
No issues only replaced a slave cylinder on the clutch cost about £100 at Fords.
Now nearly 8 years old changing it for a new one around June next year will not hesitate to go for the much improved T280 trend. The lad two doors down from me has one he's getting 38 to the gallon :o lovely redesigned cab and many extras.

I have the 115 limited version,2010.I have had it nearly 2 years and have found it to be a great van. Fitted with a 650l tank it pulls well, and it drives well.I had a Renault Trafic courtesy van a few weeks ago and I much prefer the Transit, think the Transit has a bigger loading space as well?Interior wise there are plenty storage areas for all your trash. The limited version comes with a vinyl floor in the back as standard,so no need for speedliner/protectacote.
There is an all new Transit coming out soon so you will probably get some good deals on nearly new when the new model is unveiled

Check fuel pump very carefully for leaks.

I had a t260 85ps until last month and fuel pump went .... started with a slight drip for a few weeks but was getting worse ... was told solonoid cover and solonoid was at fault and would cost £350 ish to sort by a specialist but no specialist would do it due to age and miles as they all said whole thing will go within a few months when solonoid starts leaking and wanted £1250 to sort !!

Sold it on ebay spares or repair in end

It really going to be a straight choice between defender 7-10years old
Or a 2010/2011 transit.
It won't be a Citroen etc had one and it was shocking
