i would guess only 2% Of our customers are lost to the hiring of rugdoctors why go to all that trouble of making videos to try and convert that 2%? and why fill your website with negativity?
I bet we lose more customers to Shake & Vac or Vanish Mousse ( making vaccing 5 times more effective :-\ :-\ ) I don't hear anyone making videos to combat that.
to be honest I think the people who hire Rug Doctors wouldn't hire a pro carpet cleaner anyhow......so we don't lose out to them

i do at least 1 job a fortnight where the customer has hired one and gave up or got no result this time so will disagree there. understand what your saying with the negativity but i would see it as helping my customers to make an informed decision, after all, i started my cleaning business on the back of a failed rug doctor attempt. as for the foam, hey, why not, cheers, idea number 3 ;) ;D
ps...plus it would be fun making one. ;D

1 job a fortnight!! how do you know? do you ask them?
I can honestly say in all the time I have cleaned carpets maybe 2 or 3 times has a customer mentioned hiring a rug doctor. for me its a non existent problem

they have the money to make this type of video

thing is mike . i cant remember the figure of how many people get their carpets cleaned but it was under 20% (i read it on here) . my mate tells me they run out of these regularly in his shop and they have a fair few there. i live in a mid sized town and there are 5 places that i know of rent these machines so that would suggest there are a lot more people get their carpets cleaned than what we think. i accept some will be driven by price but surely others can be converted
dan
ps. thats not including the hss places and a new company thats advertising them little aquarius pro's for rent

The problem is Dan that those people have a certain price point in their minds.
If you look at the comments below the video I highlighted, you'll see what I mean.
Best to look for someone who wants it done properly right NOW

I have done two jobs in the last two months where the customer has hired a rug doctor or borrowed a friends vax.
first customer browned her carpet which i managed to sort out for her.
second one left the carpet looking worse than when she started- her words.
Funny enough both customers lived in nice houses and didnt seem short of a few bob-
telling me about there holidays etc
unfortuately didnt see there holiday snaps- first lady was stunning!

I got all set up to make a video.
80/20 cream wool carpet.
Put out on the industrial estate and filmed artics, vans, postie loads of folks driving over.
Had everyone go out and chuck their left over tea/coffee over it.
Bought the RD chemicals and had a student who had never cleaned a carpet in her life all ready to go.
Customer agreed we could use their RD Pro for the video.
I then thought I would spray some engine oil on it. Mixed some neat Craftex Champion in to the oil to help with spraying it and subsequently stained the carpet green rendering it useless.
Doh!

It depends how many rug doctor outlets there are by you, I too do at least 1 a week that's been rug doctored or vaxed with poor results.
In fact here's an email from a job last sat-
Dave was very punctual, polite and honest; informing of any genuine stains that might cause difficulty in the cleaning process. I was honestly surprised at how well the carpet came out. I've not seen it looking so clean since new. I tried 'The Rug Doctor' from B&Q 12 months ago and was disappointed with the results. Looking back I wish I had spent the money (which was only about £10-£15 more) getting it cleaned to this much higher standard. I will be recommending to friends and family. Thank you.
