can anyone tell me the machine i could use (powerful enough for most jobs)....and hireable...job lot .

I didnt hire my machine I bought it.
Now its paid for.
The Karcher HDS801B.
This machine is not the most powerful machine there is, but its more than capable of cleaning driveways and patios to a very good standard.
Its reliable, very robust.
But one thing about going down the hiring road is that you never own the machine, if its a lease hire then you have a contract period and whether you have work or not the machine has to be paid for.
I myself would say take the plunge and buy the best machine you can afford and stick to the basics, driveways and patios, use a turbo lance forget the FSC.
If you get a hot and cold machine then this will cut down on chemical if you use it on hot, but then you have diesel to buy.
Get insured.

thanks for the link just had a look, was only going to rent for the first few jobs,,as i am going to build around present job as i have very flexible hours...so just to get the feel etc and see how many jobs come in at the start ..then buy...also you said forget the rotary, isnt that a lot quicker?... done a couple of drives for family to practice...using a lance only and it took me hours...mind you i was using a domestic electric one..130bar tho...thought the rotary was the quickest cleanest and most professional way.

When you start all you want to do is keep costs down to a minimum.
So therefore use a turbo lance rather than a FSC.
Personally I dont rate them, they are slow and you usually end up finishing off with the lance anyway.
But this is only my opinion.
I can clean a driveway/ patio just as fast with the turbo lance than i can with the FSC.
I do have a small Gerni fsc which is the dogs danglies and out performs the bigger fsc everytime.
Most driveways will take you approx 1hr to 1 1/2 hrs. depending of course on size.
But in a lot of situations the turbo lance will out perform the FSC.

Hss provide an instruction manual with all machines and machines themselves are top quality.
If you do hire one it may pay to check what sort of lance and nozles the hire it out with.

hi paul.thanks... looked at the ones for hire, think you are right about just buying it...i am trying to build around my present job as you know,...so i shifted all my work into 4 days . leaving mondays and weekends to build this up, going to drop leaflets this week,trouble is if i get just one job for a monday,its £81 for that day to hire a hot water petrol machine at 140 bar...so if you tot them figures up over a few weeks...i simply would never get off the ground,,,unless there are much cheaper places to hire..i think you are right about buying outright...

Hi Gazza,
What I would do is not book the job Monday as this makes you look desperate.Book it for the following Saturday and try and get 4 or 5 bookings even knock on some doors. This are my thoughts only.
Have a look at the hot machine size weighs 300 lb it takes 4 people or a fork lift truck to move it.
Hire rates normally 1 day is half the price of a weeks hire, most hire shops do a special weekend rate. If your very lucky pick it up Friday night and return in first thing Monday.
Make sure you have insurance to cover it, if it gets stolen you will have to pay for it.

I bought my second machine on ebay just before christmas, I gave £60 for it had it overhauled which cost £80 then had to buy a lance and hose for it which cost me £100.
All in all I got a really portable high pressure machine for only £240 and i think its earned more than that up to now.

 thanks for your help its also a good idea to do weekends and build on mondays bit by bit until i have a few jobs,
