I was speaking to a local hire company here in N.I and he was saying you don't actually need to have a licence

dont know about NI but in england you do, they will hire it without licence but if theres a problem then you could be in for a big hit

That's what I thought but the guy was adamant  it's not actually required. He said it's not government backed and has just been set up, bit like fed of window cleaners and alike groups

my brother has no licence and has been hiring them for years, a lot of hire company's will give you a license if they expect to get custom from you ;)

sorry mate but its your responsibility to be licencensed not the hire companies, they dont give you a licence just because youve hired it, including insurance for damage or theft of machine, which you wont have if not trained on them, they will hire it to you without (normally) showing licence but its up to you, if your prepeard to take a chance or not

just the bit in red, they will give it if they think you will hire enough, and to be fair give you the training for free if they think you need it, if you have hired from them for a long time before these licenses were introduced they will also give you one ;) they probably shouldn't but that is life

You also need the harness training has well before you can drive one.
It's easier to hire picker with driver who will be experienced unless you are using one very regular
