Aaaarrrggh!!
Did a quote for communal clean and window cleaning which was accepted. They asked me to go to the website to download contractors forms.
Read through and they require all contractors to be signed up to safecontractor. It would work out just under £240 for the year for me.
Really wish they'd told me before the quote.
I don't see the point in it either, it just looks good. Anyone can submit forms to safecontractor and look like they're doing things right whereas it's totally different when they actually do the work!
Going to give it a miss as it'd take 3 months to make back the money and then you have to pay again next year. Flippin con.
Never been asked for it before and I do lots of business cleaning.

May aswell just fill on the form and miss that out. If they do say anything explain- if not there you go! I have done this before you would be surprised how little attention they pay to these forms

i have these and am just going through iso.
its really all rubbish.
in theory its a good idea ,as it shows other buisnesses your serious ,and h&s compliant and so on .

so say you have a few different managing agents on your books you might have different agents using different so called un policed safe contractors approved firms double fees to keep your work.How many more will start up ?

Well I'm going to start one up . . I'll earn a fortune lol . . Thanks for the replies. I talked to the guy and he tried to see if they'd bypass it on this occasion but they can't.

basically its questions on how you manage safety and they require documented proof ie sample method and risk assessments, proof of purchase and issue of ppe, ladder inspection records if ladders are used, evidence of meaningfull comunication with employees, and also training records health and safety policy etc. The list is too long to mention but if you can put all this into practice and keep everything upto date then should you are an employee have an accident it will show the HSE you have done your best to protect employees and members of the public, personally i dont think you will get vasts amount of extra work by having the accreditation but it shows you are taking health and safety as a serious matter, my personal gripe with the system is that it only checks the paperwork side where as i feel checks should be made to see if the actual work itself is being carried out safely as many firms have these accreditations but dont follow them in practice

even when they do call at your place of work ,they call to c where you are so you know they are on thier way.and then you can get your cones out ;D
chas is a goverment recognised scheme.so if your going to join any thats probably the one to join.

Trevor, I totally agree with you!
Plus, i'd only be getting it to be able to get this contract which in all honesty is worth £60 a month!!
It's £240 for me to sign up, so even putting £20 a month on top to cover the cost it's still going to take the first 3 months of each year paying it off until I get a profit.

We get housing association work by having Chas and SafeContractor. Without them they wouldn't entertain you, unless some are run different of course. You need to see the big picture.

ok, had a chat with them and they've now decided to go ahead without me signing up to safecontractor. Result ;D
