Hi Carrie,

Yup Joe still with me and was up to speed within a week or 2, ... at first our water consumption shot up as he was over rinsing but rather have that then call backs now though water use is back to normal ... will be out on his own within the next month ... set up payroll on Sage One http://uk.sageone.com/ for a fiver a month you cant beat it and as Ive set up an account with the government gateway http://www.gateway.gov.uk/Default.aspx it all happens automatically ... Government gateway great for all HMRC stuff, paye, self assesment etc etc

Only tip I can give is to follow proper process with interview and only employ someone u feel you can work with ... dont be tempted to take a chance employing wrong person ... better to delay process and advertise again IMHO

Good Luck !!!

Thanks Ian, do you need to have both sage and hmrc that you have? Sorry if I am being a wally - wading through the hmrc site, why did you do sage rather than the hmrc payroll? Do you pay monthly 4 weekly or differnt - and do you send the tax/ni at the same time?

Can prob find this all out but if you didn't mind sharing your experience I'd be grateful. Good advice, if we don't get the right person we will not rush but re-advertise. Thanks Carrie

Hi Ian

ust checked out the sage link, looks very good I thnk I may use that :) Can you just confirm the gateway thing, is that just to enable you to inform the HMRC that you are an employer now??

So when you run the sage system, you enter Joes wages, it auctomatically does the dedutions you give joe a payslip and pay him, it shows you what you need to pay the HMRC - so do you then just do an online payment to HMRC with the right ref numbers or do you need to do it via the gateway thing?

thanks

Yes to question 1 but lots more besides informing about employing ... tax .. self assessment etc

Question 2 ... yup sage does dedutions for you once you have set up the employee ... you need p45 or print off a p46 ... it wont send money into employees bank account but you know how much to send ... i think sage will send money to hmrc but not sure as Joe under Ni / Tax lower earnings so nowt to pay

Went with sage payroll as do all my own bookkeepping now and sage cashbook is a piece of cake to use and sage payroll will link to sage cashbook.
