I've just cleaned a Moroccan hand made rug - all wool, hand woven, not dye safe in the least:

How would you have cleaning this? I HWE'd it... risky, but I did own it!

Change the cleaning solution to suit.

Immersian clean,
it shouldnt be a problem, just keep rinsing untill dye if any stops running/
Rapid dry.
I clean most rugs using this method now.

You were just lucky David. You would have been better ruining it then you won't ruin someone elses in the future.
I can't see the pic. but they tend to be vibrant colours and the safest method is vlm or as Geoff has suggested. Even then it's very easy for you to get bitten. I know I sound negative but you often get people say to just HWE it but they don't have to buy a new one when you screw it up.

Geoff.... and DRY FLAT ;)
David, Wynne is right... you can't be too careful with unknown rugs. Lots of experience & training needed before you can casually chuck water on them without giving it a second though!

Thanks for the good advice guys. Rug training is on my to-do list, for the near future...
