Title: Clients saying not this month!
Post by: britishwill on October 01, 2012, 10:38:20 pm
Just been trying a different tack recently....

If a clients wants to put off their clean for say a month, I get a little cheesed off as i have projected that money in my pay packet. I do not mind the odd I am away this week can we make it next week due to access issues.
So instead of just dumping them I have tried this so that if there is any misunderstanding we both do NOT take offence..

So far everyone has understood and I think will not muck me about, if they do they know the consequences.
This way they will not bad mouth you if you just stop turning up.

This is what I send to them:

hank you for the email.

I hope you had a lovely weekend.

Unfortunately the longest duration that I offer as a business is 8 weeks, i.e. 6 times a year. (This is the schedule you are on). The reason for this, is
my round is made up of area's and we block all of the houses to be cleaned in that day so that we can make a profitable round with less travelling etc!

The round will only work on a 4, 6 or 8 week schedule, otherwise all the houses get mixed up and you end up doing one house in GX then one in Amersham
etc etc.  It also takes considerably longer to clean dirtier windows if they are not cleaned on a regular basis.

The reason why window cleaners offer a schedule and not an add hoc window clean to clients is because they need to be able to project the income they will get throughout the year. If all clients said 'not this month', we would have no business and would not be able to offer a regular service as we would never know how much we would earn. Unfortunately with a family and staff  I need to know this, as I am sure you can appreciate.

If you would consider staying on an 8 week schedule I can continue to clean your windows, but otherwise I will struggle to continue to clean your windows for you.

I hope you understand the predicament I am in and that we can come to a compromise.

Best wishes

Will

You could also tell them that any longer than 8 weeks and it reverts to a first deep clean and a charge for the extra time would be incured.

All very noble and accommodating britishwill,  but it's so much less hassle to dump them.

A wiser poster than me wrote:-

Canvass, clean, cull.

He was right.

if a 2 monthly job gave me a "not this time" for no good reason i would not go back.i have had the odd one who has due to building work etc but what i do is not clean them until there next due(eg 4 months)to keep them in sync with other 2 monthly jobs in the area.

i certainly wouldnt bother with a  letter mate.

I just say, "If I don't clean them today, I shall take you off my round!"  Sometimes they shrug their shoulders and say, "Fine!", other times they say, "Oh, go on then, carry on!"

thats one of the problems of 8 weekly if they miss then its 16 weeks.
One of the reasons i have stayed on 4 weekly and i no longer do 8 weekly i think this way maximises your income

Most of my work is 8 weekly, so when they miss a clean because of weather or building work, i don't mind,
its when they make a habit of it i stop cleaning them, i don't even bother telling them.
