Title: Racking up kit in the van
Post by: david@zap-clean on September 20, 2012, 12:43:12 pm: I keep my kit in boxes on the van floor. As I've accumulated more and more kit my VW Transported is now full up, and I can't get my blowers in.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a racking system for my van - the floor space is used up, but there's loads of vertical height unused.

If you're not too handy with saws and screwdrivers you surely know a mate who's a chippie... some beer tokens in his back pocket at the weekend and he should be able to build whatever you want

Use your roof and insides of the back doors to mount stuff on, really helps maximise the space ;)

exactly as jim says . this link is just an idea of what u can do yourself or as jim says get a chippie or even a handyman to do it . or buy something like one of these . brilliant vans the transporter . wont fall apart with rust like most other makes and very reliable

The other option would be a DIY job using reasonably heavy duty ply and timber battening. I did my Transporter myself and use clear plastic "really useful boxes" to store less used items. It keps them organised and stops them from moving around in the back of the van.

I fitted the wheel arch kit on the near side (no modifications required). It's perfect. It swallowed up loads of kit:

Note, the shelves tilt/slope backwards, so things stay in place better):
