Post by: Lavinia on September 17, 2012, 04:10:25 pm
Am interested to hear if people are pleased with yell.com as an advertising method? I went in Yellow pages years ago but was put off by silly prices. now more searches are done on the internet. I Just want to find out if people think its a good way to go before i call them for an hour long sales pitch. many thanks for any help :-*

I get hardly anything from it, I would save your money.

I get a few calls from my free listing.

I haven't seen it, but apparently there's a 'Yell' app for smart phones to help you find numbers now too.

Lavinia, unless you have money to burn it's probably best to stay away.

The way they are set up seems to be totally at odds with how any normal person would search online. They try and impose their own categories on to people.

I had an online discussion with them on behalf of a client who signed orders to the tune of £ 6,500.

When I complained about ads not showing, they said searchers were "searching in the wrong category". When I told them people searched by keyword so the ads should show regardless, they just kept repeating their answer. He cancelled his order.

We also tested some banner ads with them. We found they did not display if the searcher used Internet Explorer (which 80% of the customers did at that time!).

After 4 months of totally cr@p service and NO calls i pulled the plug and had ALL my money returned.
Useless for updating pictures and info to your profile, also they don't seem to be very helpful when it comes to featuring your own company video... gave me a load of bull about copyright and it could take up to 2 months for it to be passed by their admin!

Worst mistake i have made in the last 5 years... avoid, avoid, avoid!

There's so many competing on-line business listings these days - yell's just another runner in the pack.

Just use their free listing feature.
