What's the best way to clear out a blocked down pipe  :)

It depends where it's blocked.  If it's blocked at the top, sometimes just scooping the dirt out unblocks it.  Sometimes you may have to disconnect the down pipe from the gutter at the top.  Other times no ladders are needed 'cos it's blocked right at the bottom.

Take a look at the job and think about it.  Guttering is fairly simple stuff.  If you need to use ladders I find a ladder stand off great for these jobs and also a Rojak ladder stopper.

Always have a Phillips and a flathead screwdriver handy as some installers screw the bends together.

If it's blocked at or near the bottom, a length of stiff hose pushed up the drain hole (ooer-missus!) will often get things moving enough that any trapped water will clear the rest of the blockage.  Same near the top.

tennis balls can jam a downpipe, iv seen a couple ,not easy to spot , but can be sometimes tugged out by spearing them with a long screwdriver
