Paul, the battery is good, I charge mine most nights but have left it a day or two and it's been fine. As for the hose, I am guessing you can connect any hose you want to. It depends what length you want the hose and what you want it for? Are you going to van mount it for instance, or drag the trolley around with you?

i intend to leave it in my car and run it off 25ltr barrels for now till i have more cash, it seems to work ok for other people. will mount it eventualy and get a big barrel. id reckon a 100m hose should do it, what do you reckon pal?

Same... i have the hose and connections sorted to detach from the van tank and use as a trolley system if required...never needed to yet ...once you grow  and move on from your car you will still be able to use the trolley system as described...just decide on the size tank you need... hope that helps..

i got my advice off here too when setting it up.....good luck

I've always used the trolley only as a van mount. Its a reliable bit of kit that has never let me down. The 25 litre barrells are a hassle and time consuming to keep changing, especially when you have to do it mid job, so I would get a tank fitted as soon as you can. Even if you only have room for a small, eg 125 litre tank, its better than using barrels.

Totally agree.

so....

If most start using a trolley, but later end up leaving it in the van and just running the hose from it, would it not be better (and cheaper) to simply buy a pump box from the start?

Something like the streambox:
http://www.cleaningspot.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000002.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww.cleaningspot.co.uk%2facatalog%2fwater_pumps.html&WD=streambox&PN=water_pumps.html%23aSB100_2d85V#aSB100_2d85V

Only £413 complete with the battery.

Then simply have that in the car/van, feeding from barrels, or a tank, or whatever?
