Funny I wa listening to a tape by Dr Berry indoor air quality scienstist and expert on sick building syndrome
He said these things were not environmentaly friendly and should be chucked in a skip.
Ozone Machine Dangers
By Russell Huebsch, eHow Contributor Consumers who have experienced a fire or recently restored a house may want to get rid of the odor left over by using an ozone generator. Many ozone generator manufacturers claim that ozone is not only an effective way to remove air pollution, but that it is relatively safe as well. However, according to the EPA, while some levels of ozone are acceptable, ozone generators can often exceed safety limits and cause health issues. Ozone generators are also unlikely to get rid of most indoor air pollution.

He also said back up your statement.

Firstly do you really consider a simple page from e how.com to be the basis of an educated judgement ? Ozone machines like I believe they refer are used while people are using the rooms - I would never use one of these machines in this situation - I'll agree on this point. The ozone machines used for odour remediation produce a huge amount of ozone which people should definately not be exposed to. The "shock" machines fill the rooms with gas which kills the bacteria and hence the smells and then should be properly vented before use.
Do you ever drink mineral water from a bottle ? Natural eh ? Ozone is used in the rinse water prior to filling the bottle to kill the bugs ! I used to be an engineer in a soft drinks factory and thats where I first used ozone. It does work but it is a gas that is detrimental to your health but has to be used correctly - as with most things. It occurs naturally during thunder storms and thats why the air smells fresh after.
Always read the label ;)

There is also a link to EPA but Dr Berry was the EPA

Copied from your reference EPA
Can Ozone be Used in Unoccupied Spaces?
Ozone has been extensively used for water purification, but ozone chemistry in water is not the same as ozone chemistry in air. High concentrations of ozone in air, when people are not present, are sometimes used to help decontaminate an unoccupied space from certain chemical or biological contaminants or odors (e.g., fire restoration). However, little is known about the chemical by-products left behind by these processes (Dunston and Spivak, 1997). While high concentrations of ozone in air may sometimes be appropriate in these circumstances, conditions should be sufficiently controlled to insure that no person or pet becomes exposed. Ozone can adversely affect indoor plants, and damage materials such as rubber, electrical wire coatings, and fabrics and art work containing susceptible dyes and pigments (U.S. EPA, 1996a
