Title: Windy friend paralyzed through fall, anyone know how to set up a charitable fund
Post by: FCS on September 06, 2012, 06:01:31 pm: A window cleaner friend of mine had a fall recently and broke his neck, he's now paralysed from the neck down..

Could anyone point me in the right direction of a way to set up a charitable fund for him and his family, something that is recognizable, legal, legit, so it's clear it's not my 'new car/camera' fund.

Have any of you set anything up like this before or had any experience of this kind?

And any ideas for fundraising?

they are a specialist charity dealing with spinal injuries and would be a good source of help and support.

It is a difficult time for the chap and his family Aspire may be able to help.

What I would do is find someone local who had done something similar. For example a few years ago a local lad was knocked off his bike and ended up in a wheelchair; he was a young guy about to join the army - a big rugby player too called Dan Black and there's been regular fund raising appeals for him:

I would seek the family of someone who has been in a similar situation and ask them for advice on how to start such a thing. And good on you, but I would think something like this takes long term determination.

Post by: FCS on September 10, 2012, 04:38:53 pm: Thanks for that Tosh, (100% correct as usual!), already spoken to a customer who had done a similar thing for her son, she's pointed me in a few different directions and helped me out.. Let's see how it goes...

I know this requires long term thinking, there's no quick fix, but ANYTHING would help as he's going to need tech, house mods, allsorts, just to get by.

I know DOZENS of local windies who would be willing to help out , maybe if we could get all of our custards to put just a couple of pounds in, it's a start. It's just a matter of getting some official recognition and an accountant on board hopefully.
We'll see, imo anything is better than nothing.

I'm looking for sponsorship type fundraising ideas, although it's early days, it looks like we'll be ok with Aspire, and there's already been a tremendous response from local windies.

I might have to start a different thread to ask for sponsorship ideas when we're actually up and running..
