Title: card machines
Post by: Blue Frog Systems on August 26, 2012, 08:04:33 pm
im not a carpet cleaner but i thought some of you would have card machines so i hope you dont mind me posting this here

Really considering a card reader now. am fed up of going collecting and people not being in. I leave a note to say the windows have been cleaned and that i will be back on a certain day.

Tonight ive been out and less than 1/3 of people in. a couple i reckon are on holiday but the rest arent.

so my question is.... does anyone use a card reader, how much is the cost and can you use it over the phone ?

Personally I don't but I know some people use PayPal or a pay a trader I think it's called. But like PayPal they take a fee

I have a chip & pin machine from Pay Yours dont have number handy but if you type it into the net you will find them.
Not that expensive you have to buy the machine then pay a monthly fee for the roaming chip plus usual card charges still works out cheaper than taking chques. :)

surely you use direct debit for this type of payment. with a card reader they still have to be in unless your gonna use "card user not present" which i think is even costlier. why don't you just leave a card with details of on line payment if DD is not an option. online bank transfer is usually free.

With Payatrader you can just leave a card with
your trader number on it and they can pay online
when they're in w/o you being there.
You also get a text and e mail when the transaction
is successful.

I do not know if it would work but as said above I would not clean windows or do domestic cleans without advance Direct Debit payment like sky. or a system such as used by telephone and utility companies.

failing that 3 months advance payment ??? ??? ??? ???

You wouldn't have many customers then Ian.
I kept one of my rounds when I started up.
I regularly have customers owing 2, 3 or even
4 cleans, I have never not been paid by them.
When they do pay they usually pay some more
up front.
At certain times of the year you do get a lot of
non payers but as long as you put a note through
their door so they know you been it's fine.
Gives people the idea that your desperate.
Having said that I've never had only 33% of the
weeks work outstanding, usually manage to get
around 85% - 90% every time.
