Mentioned to an old hand yesterday that I'm starting up he said I'll get fed up cleaning winndows he also said one area I'm doing he gave away for free, I know this is unlikely, ffs there are plenty of windows out there, he employs 3-4 guys so he must have a big run, he does not know me nor I him except that I knew he was a window. Cleaner. I think he was just at it painting it all black

Sounds like he's just trying to put you off pal - doesn't want you muscling in on his turf methinks
Go for it - you'll find out soon enough if he was telling the truth :)
-
I guess we could ask what would you expect him to say? Something like this maybe?
'Go on my son, get out there and do your best, it's great this job'
He's just being unpleasant and trying to put you off.
So what if he dumped the work you've picked up, lucky you. Don't sweat it mate, carry on.
You will get days when you wish you did something else, but thats true in any job, I know I've had quite a few of them. ;D

He's right.
Windows are shocking.
That's why I'm not going today.

It certainly isn't as easy to start up as it used to be.

I am buying 3 well established rounds they are costing me around 5000 and takes in 1400 a month and I'm buying off family 2 of the runs I'm working off at the weekend's the other I'm buying in January when I go full time and pack my window fabrication job in that pays 7.50 an hour before tax, so hardly taking a risk here.

It seems to me that he was trying to put you off. I have had it happen to me, only it made me more determined to continue.
As Malc said, it is definitely harder to start up these days. I know from experience as I am still building my run up after moving to Ireland a year ago. It's only after I made the move that I appreciated how easy it was to attract work in Blighty.
It's very tough going here, but I am getting closer to where I need to be.
This time next year ...
