Probably the stupidest thing I've seen in a long time.
Point blank airbag contact is often fatal which is why rearward facing child seats are banned from the front of cars following several incidents of babies having their heads blown off.
A local chap was involved in a similar force explosion when I was kid caused by a split rim lorry wheel exploding and blowing half his head off and when his friend found him a some time later he was still alive, although thankfully he died soon after.

yes, note I have just come home from WORK - its obvious how Mick has spent his afternoon!!!
