Title: Keeping the brush clean
Post by: robbo333 on August 13, 2012, 05:43:47 pm
I'm just starting out and picking up quite a lot of first cleans; some have really filthy frames. Sometimes I get lengths of cobweb crud that seem to hang onto the brush. Is there an easy way to clean this off (especially on upper windows) before I start on the glass?
Thanks
Pete

Tends to come off easy enough, although flocked may grip a bit more.

Worst case do the obvious, bring it down and remove by hand.

Rubbing against the brickwork not a great idea.

I find that when  cleaning top windows and the brush gets a bit dirty if you turn the pole so that the brush moves through 45 degrees and drag it down over the edge of the sill a couple of times this tends to get rid of enough of the build up.
Then when you drop the pole you can run your hand over the brush to get rid of any that's left

Yes there is.  Move the brush away to the side of the window and with a flick of the wrist turn the shaft of the pole rapidly anticlockwise, then clockwise and so on.  Looks like a dog shaking itself and will get 99% of cobwebs off the top.  Any that stay on aren't going to come off just because the brush touches some glass.

If the windows have that much crud on them I give things a quick going over with a cobweb brush (on a pole).

another good idea on first cleans is have an oblong WC bucket half full with pure water and wash it in it helps move all the bits of dirt and grim that gets stuck in the bristles. Plus it gets the brush looking good for your next maintenance clean...  :)
