hi,
i'm moving house soon, and have just found out my new place has a water metre already :'(
a couple of months back there was a post off someone saying they'd bought a new piece of equipment that reduced wasted water remarkably well. does anyone know what it is and or who it was???

can you not just turn your flush valve tap on a little bit to make more product and less waste? or use a tap style hoze lock connection on your waste out port?

Interesting idea. Thanks. There was a WC who had a new filter or something from one of the bigger companies i think... maybe ionics? wish I had made a note when I read it now. it was only a couple of months back...

hi richard, sorry mate i dont anything about a new filter. but i can defo control my wast and product ratio whith the above ive suggested.
infact when i first got this ro (650 gpd) i did not have a flush valve tap fitted on it so all i used was a plastic ez lok tap style connection from the waste out port and adjusted it manually to get a ratio i wnated.
i found more waste = less product (obviously) but a lower tds.... less waste to product ratio (which is harder on the ro membranes btw) = higher tds, so more resin will be used. hope this helps mate? george

Ionics Pro-6 system has an additional filter that reduces waste water to 20% I think.
If you just restrict the waste flow to try to get less waste, you'll massively reduce the life of your RO. It's supposed to be at 60% for a good reason.

ah okay, suppose its a toss up then between cost of water bill vs ro membrane replacments! thanks

You can run two 4040 ro's one being fed from mains and the other from the first ro's waste speak to gaps water and they will help you out. It is expensive but will reduce your total waste water to 20% rather than the usual 40-50% ratio
