Title: DESPERATE FOR ADVICE
Post by: Jacqueline Kerr on August 11, 2012, 11:00:06 am
HI, yesterday my water readings were 0.08 so was advised to change filters in my RO system. I did this carefully, or so I thought, getting everything back in the right place BUT must have done something wrong as my waste water is now trickling through at a reading of 002 and my so called filtered water is 74. Can anyone advise as must have done something wrong but have been racking my brains trying to think what. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Just to clarify,
All youve done is change the pre-filters.
So all you could of done is, put them in the wrong sequence, or not seated them properly.
Take them out and put them in again,

Also did you run the ro on a flush cycle for a while after fitting the new filters, as the may need a clear out first ??

HI Guys, thanks for all the speedy responses. I did allow it to run for about 20 minutes to flush out new filters, so thought it cant be that, I do have the filters in tHe right sequence as thoughtfully they are marked so I couldnt get that wrong (thank god) but I will check that they are seated right. I have now changed the pipes around so and will see if the membranes will work that way around. Dont have time to check it all now as have to go on my round so have had to use my DI system (thank god for backups) and got my water down to 000. Let you all know later if it works otherwise will possibly be spending Sat nite doing a Kypton factor challenge lol  THANKS AGAIN

It soes sound like you have disconnected a pipe somewhere and connected back to wrong fitting, just to clarify you only need to unscrew the large pre-filter holders ,remove old filters and replace,if you have waste water at 0.2 it shows your filter change was effective and will proably get lower with longer filter flush . I cant really think what you may have done other than somehow swapping waste/filter pipes which should not need to be touched on filter changes ,good luck with it

Can I just jump in on this thread and ask a newbie question regarding the ro readings. I've just got set up about a week ago with new ro from pure freedom, after a initial 30 minute flush the reading was a shocking 28, today after actually following the instructions I've done a 2 hour flush and it's down to 17. Will this be likely to come down more than this, my mate who lives about 15 miles away has had his between 2-10.

Depends on your input TDS.  You should get about 96-98% rejection (reducing your TDS by that percentage) and this is also subject to the actual pressure at the membranes.  Also worth checking that your system was put together properly - we've had a few where the membrane housings weren't properly assembled so waste water was finding its way into the pure.

What was the tds in? Mine is 280 and using a pf system comes out at 8 or so.

Cheers, my tds in (I take it you mean pre ro reading) is 260. The ro was also sent assembled, all we had to do was connect waste pipe and pure water pipe to tank etc. my water pressure (if this is what you mean Ian) is average but not great.
