Title: same position
Post by: Ryan @ Transparent, Carlisle on August 10, 2012, 10:11:47 pm
I am in the same position as i was last year.

Let me explain,

Last year, we were in discussions of putting a 2nd van on the road and employing someone. Then we found the delights of the Water Fed Pole system, we no longer had this problem, as we CUT the days that we worked due to getting through the work extra fast..... in particular one round that took us 2 days to complete, now takes us ONE (long, 9-10hour) day

We are not reaching the point of saturation where we are thinking of employing, and taking the "temporary" pay cut, but giving us more time to go out & canvass more work.

For the past few weeks, we have had at least one "big" extra, that would of paid a mans weekly wage, be it a Fascia/gutter clean or carpet clean. Or multiple smaller jobs. Although we realise we cannot guarantee a steady stream of these "extra's"

For those of you chaps who employ, at what point did you decide to take the plunge? We have a healthy T/O each month,.

Would i be far off the "mark" of saying that WHEN our monthly T/O is around £8k then thats when we need to give it even more serious thought?

I believe that with 3 men & 2 vans. That our rounds as they stand could be completed in 12-14(working)days from a 20(working)day cycle.

Thanks

PS; The business is ran by 2 of us

I am not in your position and may never be as I am not sure what I want longer term, but it strikes me that the best advice I read on this was that the best time to employ is when you are permanently two weeks behind. I.e. when you have too much work.

why cant you just take someone on 2 days a week to start with? or is that not really feasible if you hve to buy another van?
