I honestly can't see how it could. pure water is almost inert.

That is the lead oxydizing with the water,
Is it a 1st clean?

Is the lead silver or antique?

my friends, they have noticed the colouration because they have looked closely to check the clean, had they look this closely beforehand they would hav e realised that the lead was already like this as it happens with age.

Good luck trying to explain this to them :- )

it was the fourth clean and we have been to look at the windows and it is actually going rusty in small places, the lead is only discoloured in patches and it certainly does not look like it was our fault as it was like that before we started. we tried to explain this to the customer but she wants a traditional cleaner instead so we thanked her for her custom and parted company, but thanks for your comments. :D
