I think you would be better paying off paying for better SEO, than expensive photography.

A picture can say a thousand words and a good quality picture can say that.
If your going for commercial work i would say go for it Richy. There not cheap for a decent photographer. Ask for what equipment they use and references first. Find out what sort of quality pictures your going to get and if you have all the rights to these photos. Also find out what you get picture wise ... do you get all of them or just a certain amount.

Or..
Join Flickr (for free) and join a local flickr group, ask on their page if there are any up and coming photography students that want to do the job for their portfolio. The ones that reply will already be showing off their work on Flickr so you can see if you like their style/technique. You get the shots for nothing, they get to boast that they've been 'published', everyone's a winner. (except the professional photographer of course....)

seems and actually are two different things richy. make sure you get it in writting first.
have a look at your work and see which jobs would look the best. than its just a case of staging the jobs so it looks like your doing it

DONT spend the money on SEO (what a con lol just build the site properly and moniter the SEO yourself - I get emails every day about someone guaranteeing me the no1 spot in google for £3000).
I did some consultancy work for a company who wanted a photo shoot to get their web & brochure images done, here's what I learnt:
They paid £1,500 for a photographer to take the photos, and someone else £750 (all +VAT) to edit them.
I have a Cannon EOS 1100D with a 55-75 lens & 75-250 lens (total £800 roundabouts)
When on the shoot the pro took 104 photos, I took 640.
I edited the images in 20 minutes with photoshop CS5
the pros took 3 days.
**They used my image for the brochure & web.**
Now THAT was annoying lol.
