Hi everyone - it's my first post here :)
I'm a start-up and have a question for you pros:
My 25m extraction hose is a beast to man-handle, especially when trying to coil it up to move about. Do you have any tips for managing the thing? it's got a life of its own.
...not very professional...
David.

If the solution and vac hoses are zip tied together, separate them. Run the hoses out straight before trying to coil them up.
Simon
-
Hi Simon, tnx for the fast reply.
They're not tied together at this time - I'd need be a black-belt to manage then then ;D
No, it's simply getting the hose together to move it about... I bought a net bag for it, once it's in the bag it's easily managed - but getting it in isn't. My arms just aren't big enough to contain the huge coils.
-
Hi David
Do you mean 25ft? as lengths normally come in 25ft or 50ft as opposed to your 25m (82ft). Anyway, yes as Simon says - straighten it out and curl it in to a circle as you go, simples.
Welcome aboard by the way, & dont forget to backup your data regularly ;)
-
Thanks guys, I'll give that a go then.
-
If it is 25 Meters then perhaps you should consider making it shorter and more manageable lengths...
Perhaps cutting it in half and then then one of the halves in half again.... then you only need to get out the lengths that you actually need..... and join them together as and when you need to extend.....
just a thought.... ;D ;D
-
No, it's the standard 25ft. It just feels like 25m :)
-
1 1/2 inch or 2 inch??
-
25' x 1.5'' - part of my AirFlex mini system
-
You soon get into a routine, just takes practice. I have 50ft of 2" hose and that can be a pain but again when you get use to it, its a doddle. :)

Before we had the TM we used to put our hoses in a big plastic tub just coil them in.
The vac hoses in first then the pressure hose on top.

It just takes time david to get it right..Must say sometimes i still struggle getting it coiled up with the 25 ft hoses.
-
Hi Clinton... I've just checked your details out. You operate in an adjacent area to me, and have a similar strategy. Let me know if you want to hook up sometime for a chat/mutual support.
-
Sure will do david and good luck with your business mate.

Crickey, we use 1,000 feet on lines on ships and rap them up in a blink. ???

simon is often spotted zip lining down his vac hose from the top deck wrapping up his solution hose on the move

David
The hose you have is very stiff compared with some others the easiest way for me is to make the first loop
then wrap a velcro tie round them then continue rolling hope this helps
-
Crikey if you're struggling with 25ft of 1.5" hose you must be doing something very wrong!!! It's a piece of p**s
Try 50ft of 2" truckmount hose!!
You don't have to have it out dead straight but without any tight curls in it... stick your foot on the end and feed it in to a coil, twisting with both hands as you go to make the coil of hose. I used to put the coils on edge in a big plastic storage box when I used portables.

Jim
The 2 inch hose ive got coils easier than the 1.5 with the airflex
-
this should help - Worked for me

Good tips in that video. I have seen it before as i'm a subscriber of the truckmount youtube channle.
Not that helpful for the OP though as he only has 25ft and using a porty i.e. not running from a reel.
-
I run mine out straight (where posible) then starting in the middle coil up one side, then flip the whole lot over and coil the other side up, then secure with a piece of rope, hope that makes sense

sorry couldnt resist.
john
-
Yes John but whilst you're emptying your 150th bucket of water out of the machine Simon's already packed up and enjoying some nosh in the ship's staff canteen ;) ;)
-
And a good choice of nosh it is too..
;D ;D
-
Didn't fancy it myself personally, looked like prison food :-X
-
Strange how you would know that Jim.... :P :P
I however enjoyed the food in my ignorance of prison food :-* :-*
-
I've watched prisoner cell block H a few times, you mongrel Craven!!!!

:o :o :o
;D

I purchased some velcro straps from B&Q for my 2" 50' hoses, they work a treat.
25' of 1.5 hose should coil up without any dramas and the velcro should keep it neat and tidy
-
I found a good solution for me:
A large plastic mixing trug (bucket) from Wickes. I coil the hose down into it, it easily fits. The hose nicely stacks on top of it's own coils. I have space left in the middle for (stacked) buckets. I put the rest of my damp/wet gear in the buckets.
There's no drips on the customers floor, or my van. And, it's all easily transported between van and house.

... One year later...
Yep - I now know the secret: stop being a perfectionist by trying to coil it up neatly.
Just stuff the **** thing in the crate.
Easy!

Thanks Phil. It's been a very interesting (and enjoyable) year working in this industry.
I wish I'd started 10 years ago - and saved myself 12 years pain in I.T.! But you live and learn.
