Title: IRONING CHARGES

Hi

I wondered if anyone can help with ironing charges e.g do I price by the item or weight and how much?

If you look on frequently asked questions one contributor says you can cut and paste his ironing charges from his Web Site.

Hi debbie

I have a ironing/cleaning business it all started out as a little pin money when i had my baby shes now 8yrs old,and now i have a good little business which keeps me busy.

My charges for ironing are £12 per 35 items everyone says how cheap i am i never put the price up thats why i am very busy now alot of reguar customers which has grown over the years they drop it off with me and collect the following day.There are a couple of ironing business's close by me and they charge £15 per 24 items but they have overheads i work from home charging by items is better than by the hour,because you cant prove how long its taken you.

Hi there. Yes i would charge the same for 35 mens shirts,ive been doing it for 8 yrs now and have picked up a rather speedy arm,35 shirts would take me between 45-60 mins

WOW!!....Takes me 45 minutes to iron just 1 shirt!!.....Mind you, i am watching the TV at the same time. Can't multitask, that's my problem.

I charge £1.90 per pound in weight (about 3 gents shirts) minimum load 12lb

My better-half would iron properly 35 men’s shirts with long sleeves in 5 hours, so one shirt take her about 8,5 minutes.  You say it takes you less than 2 minutes to do one shirt, unbelievable :o

My goodness i must be quick eh! one shirt takes me around 30 seconds i do have a massif square ironing board which i had made i can get a full t shirt on it flat so i can iron it without moving it its fantastic.I find ironing very theraputic and make all my decisions when im ironing,it chills me out too.If im worked up or stressed with the work load of cleaning i iron,people must be reading this and saying shes barking.have fun if theres anyone on here in the manchester area that would be interested or anyone knows anyone then let me know i do house cleaning,builders cleans and communal area cleans very competative give me a call 0161-747-5266/07799735111.

Phil,
As far as I know from your previous posts your hourly charges are above average.  Could you say how long it takes for your member of staff to iron one shirt with long sleeves?

Arthur I pay the staff 70p per pound, I have found its very easy to recruit ironers. it is a very good business to get into I don't push it at the moment but the customers are there. My presentation is key we pick up and return on blue plastic hangers and two garments per plastic sleeve, with a strip of bounce on the hanger (smells nice) we have arround 20 reg customers. kind regards Phil. PS I dont live in Harrogate I live in Hull and know I would not be able to charge these prices back in Hull, more like £1.40 to £1.50 per pound but then the ironers would work for less 50p per pound.

Thank you Phil, very interesting.  We use white hangers from Wilkinson, they are very good...  I should say however that we do not do much of ironing.

PS During CARPEX I met Andy and Judy from The Leather Training and Technical Dept. Ltd (http://www.lttsolutions.net), they are very nice people I leaned a lot from our conversation, but not enough to get into this business.  They are based in Harrogate, I am going to attend their course in the near future...
