Cleaned a carpet, last job of the day on Wednesday. Couldnt get the truckmount near the house so used my airflex storm. It was an old very short and worn looped pile carpet with recent dog pee stains with the usual grey blobs around where customers had tried to use various products on it. I told them that stains likely to be visible but would be able to remove grey splodges. Worked quite hard on the carpet to remove all residue as lady is having a baby soon. The carpet cleaned up pretty well but it did seem pretty damp despite as many dry passes as possible so I put a turbo drier in for 20 mins whilst packing all my gear up. Got a call yesterday evening saying carpet absolutely stinks and is still slightly damp to the touch! 24 hours later!!! :o
Ive told the customer that the smell should fade over the next couple of days and will go back round on Saturday(cant today as I am away all day). Just hoping the smell will have gone by then. Anyone else had this? I`ve never known a carpet take so long to dry!

there is a chance it could be latex breaking down underneath the carpet... That extends the drying time and stinks like cat pee......
not nice... it does however disperse with a few days... Just think though it is very humid at the moment and the water has nowhere to evaporate to....

Sounds like you have reactivated the bacteria in the carpet from the dog pee.
I noticed the heat and flow rate of a TM means you can sometimes flush out urine salts without an acid prespray. With a porty I would have neuralised extracted, then cleaned again.

I'd agree with Wynne (although a porti was used) I'd use something like Clensan and buff it in quick turbo dry.
