Following on from the vat thread, now see today government are saying that sole traders/small businesses are cheating the tax system by taking cash payments and that it is immoral. >:(
-
not as much as MP's though with their expenses, 2nd homes, staff, kickbacks etc
Bl@@dy hypocrytes the lot of em...... >:( >:( >:( >:(

It's the politicians that are taking all the money.

So where shall we start with tax avoidance?
ICI and the likes..... No chance too big too clever and there'll be donations to the political parties at stake here.
Large business names like Philip Green..... Ummm donations at stake there
Pikies.... don't want to upset them because they'll throw something like discrimination into the problem.
Illegal immigrants.... too much effort needed
Eastern European immigrants.... don't want to upset our 'friends' there
Celebs.... Don't tell us how you've cracked the tax avoidance game and we won't have to be seen to be doing anything about it.
Oh I know, let's go after the small business / sole trader types because there won't be any 'backlash' to the political gravy train.
Now I'm not saying tax avoidance/dodging is right but if they spent time going after the big players then the deficit would be far better.

I agree, upset the big boys and they set up somewhere else and then stop employing people that will have to pay tax.
Frustrating yes, but getting large business to pay more tax will take jobs away which then slows the economy even more, chicken and egg!
We're gonna go through a long hard depression swapping from conservative to labour governments.

It's not about large businesses etc paying more tax it's about them paying the rightful amount, instead of employing smartarse accountants to find ways around paying the same percentage as the normal everyday person has to pay.
And don't start me on tax free severence pay offs to the very people who oversaw meltdown of the banking industry.

Watch your blood pressure Neil, you don't want to end up in an under funded NHS hospital. ;D

i was talking to a friend, people don'y pay taxes as far as i'm concerned, because they never see their own tax money , if they had the money in their bank and then had to physically pay it to the government the'd suddenly realise how much too much it is.

This, IMHO, is just a ploy to divert attention away from the real issue.
My late father always used to say "don't expect a thief to wear a stripey T shirt - the biggest crooks wear a collar and tie".

Don't understand what you are saying. I see my tax money, it sits in my bank account until I have to send it to the bast***s. Especilly at the end of this month which is on account for next year.

Tax evasion is illegal.
Tax avoidance is not.
In fact I would say it's good business practice.
The only thing that the Jimmy Carr thing did was
point a lot more people in the right direction by
alerting them to the possibilities.
Shot themselves in the foot.
Why he apologised I'll never know.

Us lot are the beasts of burden. The people in the middle who pay the bulk of the tax and keep the country going. The rich can threaten to leave the country and the poor have nothing to give. :'(

Taking cash is not immoral.
It is a necessity.
I always offer my custards the choice:
Cash - cheque - or credit card.?
The invoice is always printed with one of the following messages...........................
Thank you for your prompt payment via CASH
Thank you for your prompt payment via Cheque #
Thank you for your prompt payment via Credit card, Transaction #
Keeping the books legit, is essential to remaining within the law.
If we don't pay taxes, how are those that depend on it, going to buy their essentials. ?
Maybe drug tests should also be essential for those that depend on our taxes also. ;)
Shorty.

There was a programme on a few weeks ago showing companies that were trading off shore and 3 out of the 5 cases ton the board of directors were Directors who also sat on the board of the HMRC Ethical Committee :o :o :o
The second part then showed people buying property over £2,000,000 where the Stamp Duty was 7% This part of the programme was dedicated to how they could get 5% of it back if they paid an accountant £5K.

If people play within the rules and then look like gits it's because the rules need changing/tightening. What I have a problem with is that CEO/MD could well pay less tax than his PA who comparatively, is earning peanuts.
